Topic: Make me a Computer! -$2500

i'm not sure if i've posted one of these before.. but it's coming close to my birthday.. and i am wanting to get a new computer... sooooooooooo.. if you're bored and/or have some time could you put together everything i would need to make a fairly decent computer for around $2500.. I would be using it mainly for gaming.. watching movies/dvds.. and burning stuff.. possibly a bit more but nothing that a gaming style comp shouldnt be able to handle..

if anyone is up for this would you be able to include estimated prices for each item.. and a total price at the bottom..

also just one thing while it's on my mind.. on regards to sound. i'll most likely go for a set of headphones over speakers.. but both would be great.. just to see price of them..

and.. finally.. i would do this myself.. but i'm a bit of a noob when it comes to computers.. and i'm worried i'll miss something out

Thanks Alot in Advance..
Grunt
(if it goes a little over the budget it's all good.. if it goes under.. even better :D)

EDIT: for anyone that goes OMG posted this on OCAU too.. it's because i want to get a variety of systems and ideas.. :D

f*** an upgrade, you can make a whole system for $2500 - use the IBM as a spare pc, or linux router even..

if they have no experience they should be reading hardware sites.

I don't see why people can't come here and ask these questions, as long as they aren't retarded and don't listen. It also doesn't hurt to help someone, they aren't asking much anyway.

I'd reccomend -

- P4 2.4C Type ($330)
- 2 x 256MB PC3200, anytype will do ($100-150)
- Preferably and ASUS or ABIT MOBO ($250-300)with 800FSB/HT Support.
- Radeon 9500 Pro ($400 and less)
- Western Digital 1200JB ($200 and less)
- AOPEN HX45a or HX600B case ($80-150)
- LG Burner, dont pay over $100 and make sure it's a 52x read
- Probably a Sony G420 19" Inch ($1000 or so)

And just to add to this, whatever you get make sure you get 2 seperate ram sticks, it costs more in the long run, but then you can run Dual DDR and they have better re-sale value!
Also the P4's stock cooler is capable of handling very high speeds so there is no need for an expensive HS/F upgrade.
Why bother getting an expensive fan to overclock when you can basically buy that CPU speed now for the extra cost! Because your system wont be as stable, dunno about you but when I buy a new computer I want it to work and the warranty to LAST

- Extra's are purely choice or colour/layout design.

I personally prefer Microsoft Keyboards and Mice.

err i don't see how asking simple advice for new computer parts is a waste of time, surely people that are posting on teh intraweb-super-fast-way with super-fast computers should be able to help someone without vast knowledge of systems.

who the f*** is cainer?
why does cainer seem like the biggest f***tard on the net at this moment in time?
why is every post that cainer posts seem like it has a negative aspect to it?
Is cainer always like this?

those are just a few questions of the many i have after reading this thread.

feel free to flame this cainer all you like but from where im sitting all youll do is dig yourself deeper.

get 2 x 256 sticks of ram for dual channel on teh nforce board, also that board comes with onboard LAN so you don't need to buy a network card.

For what it's worth, if you can squeak in 1GB ram rather than 512 it really helps with some games.

I noticed Simcity 4 and C&C gens easily ate 400mb+ ram just on their own when I upgraded to 1gb. The games ran a s*** load better too.

For $2500, or even less, you could get a Concept II Indoor Rower. Much better for you, and if your friends get one, you can play multiplayer.
