Couldnt we just have one big thread about silly grants? I really doubt we need multi threads for what will ensentially end up being the same convos.

wouldn't be surprised if the basis of his thesis consisted of vampires being so-called 'programs' that arent running within their parameters and trying to be fixed in a 'matrix'

People who actively disagree with the crazy theses these guys come up with always have the option to do their own thesis to come up with something better. But I think we should be grateful that there is an open system that is not narrow-minded and controlled, that allows people to do research on what they think is important for society.
Sure you may think that you don't want to pay the $00.001 or whatever is the taxpayer's share of these theses, but before the media took hold of the 'gay jesus' one, no one gave a f@#k, and anyone who had thought about it would realise that (a) the government pays for these things and (b) Australia is a free country where you can be an academic and not conform to political or popular frameworks for inspiration to research. http://www.ithaca.edu/icq/2002v1/graphics/presdefense.gif |

ah jojo this doesnt contribute to society, you can try and justify it anyway you want. In the end it doesn't contribute to society and is a waste of resources that could better be used else where...just because something is not part of normal society doesnt automatically make it valid either

It's called "Faculty of Social Science and Humanities". It's a f***ing joke, and they get unbelievable amounts of money. They have the biggest/newest library at UQ and it would HAVE to be the least productive faculty. Physics is one old crappy building with 3 postgrads to a room. In there they have the scramjet designs for NASA, they are lookig at new methods for X-Ray crystallography and are creating a new type of solar panel that will cost about 30c per cubic metre to manufacture.
We've been kicked out of the SS&H library for studying in there... I'm pretty sure that if you go in there shaven and with shoes, they figure that you don't belong and try to kick you out |

Yeah get rid of the social sciences and humanities, who needs them.
And make any academic research grant dependent on the authorization of a governmental panel. http://sjtent.com/sarcastic/SSimages/sarcastic_logo.gif |

Heheh bobbly, dont you like SS&H cause there are few questions answerable by maths? :p
I'm sure if you hunt around you'll probably find even more dodgy research papers. But remember to someone doing SS&H they would not see the point of X-Ray crystallography . They would be thinking it was utterly pointless, like you think ss&h is utterly pointless. When, really, they are both usesful. |

If you think you could get it, then why are you still here?
Not usually as simple as going to the board and saying "Hey look that guy got a grant for studying vampirism, now give me one". Never know, his study MIGHT prove useful one day, if the fad ever takes off. Some people take fads a little seriously, and could go around killing people on the premise that either they need blood, or the people were vampires. |

I think he is researching from a Cult point of view, and there are some serriously f***ed up people out there.
I remember at training once, this guy was realy pissed off about being trained by a mortal, because he was the greater gangral lord of brisbane and thus already knew how to fight. For those who don't know what a "greater gangral lord" would be, Grangals are a clan of vampires from a Vampire roll playing game. f***ing goths... |
