In case you didn't know, the original Astroboy story stated that Astro was created on April 7th, 2003. Sony's banking on Astroboy being big once again and has produced a new Astroboy TV Show, the first episode of which airs in Japan on the 6th of April. It'll hopefully be a big enough success that it'll hit the west in 'Autum'. Sony have also suggested they'll pump out a movie before the end of 2004.

Check out this SMH Article for more information. Props to natslovR for the find.

Astroboy was my favourite favourite FAVOURITE show when I was little. I had such a crush on him when I was 6.

I can still sing the opening and closing themes off by heart. Mmm, sad.

Of course, I soon tired of Astro and was more interested in Atlas.

Now *he* was a spunky robot.

Like the rest of Japan, these shop owners are preparing for the birthday of Astro Boy, a hit from the 1950s who's coming back in a new TV show and movie and who's expected to set off a wave of nostalgia for this country's more robust economic times

Hehe, I found Astroboy morbid =]

Have you seen the first episode?

The negligent professor leaves his son to his own devices, which leads to his son's tragic death in a motor vehicle accident.
The Professor then realises he should build a robot as a child, and then put the likeness of his son into the skin husk. Basically reanimating his son, for his own selfish reasons.

For crying out loud, how morbid is that? Seeing your dead child everytime you look at your new robot is just a little too far I reckon. I don't think the censors would allow the same story to be run in this day and age.

Kids are too babied these days.

Slight bumpage.

Tis his birthday today.

People in Japan are going crazy - Astroboy theme being played in subways.

There's also an "Astroboy bra" with cups the shape of Astroboy's head and heaps of other *interesting* features.
