I'm just interested in everyones opinion of the GAMECUBE and who is going to import one or buy one when it comes out here next year? I've already pre-ordered one from America, with 7 games. Super Smash Brothers : Melee Eternal Darkness Luigis Mansion Wave Race Pikmin Star Fox Adventures and Star Wars Rogue Squadron. So you can all come over to my house and play when I get it in November :) |

Yep, big surprise here, I'm getting one. if it doesn't play counter-strike, stuff it. It's weird, right after I get my beast machine, I get really bored and disappointed with the current state of online games, especially FPS's. Oh well, not long now until MCO, Freedom Force, and Star Wars Galaxies... |

All of those games rock YOu've got Adventure, Racing, RPG'ish/Survival horror, fighting, weird RTS type game and a fantasy flight sim. They are all unique....unlike a lot of console launches where the games are soo similar! |

About 4 games have sparked my interest in the PS2....but 4 games isn't enough to go and buy a $700 console. Final Fantasy X, MGS2, and these 2 others which I can't remember the name of. Devil Must Cry and this other one ...damn my bad memory! |

hah, its funny to watch you all sit there and try and convince yourselves that you're able to live without playing MGS2 firsthand on PS2. Oh well, I'm happy, I've got my copies of GT3, MGS2 and Soul reaver 2 ordered. In Novemeber when you're having fun molesting your little plumbers, I'll be soaking up the slaw that is MGS2. Accept it! |

Gamecube does not support DVD? 1.) Nintendo chose not to sell its "base" unit with DVD compatability simply cause its a games machine not an entertainment system 2.) Nintendo IS releasing a DVD compatible Gamecube in months after the release of the GCN. 3.) the X-Box is utter s***, its an extended pc, a underpriced laptop if you will. 4.) yes the PS2 will own. 5.) no its not shocking, you seem to be missing, GT3, Final Fantasy X, Devils May Cry, and the list goes on. Please get your facts straigh before mention utter crap. |

hah, its funny to watch you all sit there and try and convince yourselves that you're able to live without playing MGS2 firsthand on PS2. I have to agree with Khel here - what the hell is wrong with you all??!?! Now, yes, I have a little nintendo bias, but it doesn't cloud my judgement to the point where I'm ignoring what'll be the most engrossing console game pre-November-5, if not for the year. There are some games that sell consoles. For most people, they will buy one to play the goodness that is either GT3 or MGS2. I know after playing through the Japanese version of GT3 at work, I'll definitely be buying GT3 when it comes out here (and probably also a PS2 at that stage as well ;p). Do yourselves a favour. Go down to Blockbuster, rent a PS2 and/or Zone of Enders. Play through the MGS2 demo, and then seriously try and say "Oh, I'll wait for a dodgy PC port". Wake up. You play consoles for fun games. MGS2 and GT3 are fun games. Pikmin, Wave Race GCN and the two secret titles at the next spaceworld are fun games. xbox...well....they've still got 6+ months to try and convince me. (does anyone else think the fact that they didn't have production xbox hardware *at all* at E3 means that they're going to slip by the release date? I mean, it's 6 months before you're releasing your console, you'd usually have your audio chip figured out by then...) |

Everyone was saying before E3 that NIntendo was going to be the one that wasn't going to be able to release before the end of this year....If you ask me its going to be the X-BOx. Final Development kits went out a few weeks ago for the Xbox now if that isnt' a bit too close to the release then I don't know what is. So in other words I agree with the guy above me..Spraynwipe is it? |

heh, if I remember correctly, final dev kits for the ps2 only went out a few months before its release, lending a lot towards why most of the launch titles sucked giant bags of flaming ass. I so wanted to be impressed by the X-Box, but so far, I'm feeling rather let down. Like spray said though, they've still got another 6 months to convince me... |

Tim Tibbetts - Where are you getting your GameCube from? How much is it for the shipping for that? I think Kaygen is right, the PS2 definetly has a lineup of must have titles coming out, but it looks like next financial year (after March 2002), most of the third parties will develop their titles for every system, which could do the PS2 some serious damage in terms of attracting hardware sales (although software sales is what left Nintendo with a profit from the N64, so Sony might pull the same trick with the PS2 if they can't increase the user base enough). The XBox has taken alot of damage in terms of publicity, unless they can seriously boost the speed of the games, they'll be dead in the water. Supposedly they've got a lineup of 290 titles for the XBox, but that's about as good as the 150+ titles that we're in development at the time of the N64's launch (Most of which disappeared when they saw that they could develop for the PSX much easier, or the company went bust). The GameCube did have a good showing, and they may have caught the attention of a few more third party developers. All the hardware is supposed to be finalised, with the exception of the controller (supposedly your finger can slip of the C-stick). So the GameCube looks like it will make it's launch easily. Now it's just down to advertising and marketing. This is going to be the most interesting console war ever. Will the best hardware have the best games? Sony showed what a new comer could do last generation, can MS do the same? Will Nintendo regain all the third parties it lost on the N64 with the move to optical discs? Will Sony's existing user base give them the lead? |

Well I have a DVD player and I wouldnt' want to use the PS2 as a DVD player because it doesn't have the best support for audio and video...especially audio connections. Well I pre-ordered it from www.gamingedge.com, the shipping for my order was about $70 american I "think" but I can't check this as I am at work. I'm waiting for EB to have their pre-orders up if they are cheaper I'm going with them. As for who will win I think its either got to be Nintendo or Sony.....MS in my opinion doesn't stand a chance. THe market is only big enough for 2, THIs was proven when SEGA got knocked out. But either way there are going to be lots of great games....IF I had the money I would buy a PS2 and a GAMECUBE but I don't unfortunatly......I already have a PC so I don't need an Xbox, and I would like to play Halo with decent mulitplayer capabilities unlike those that will be avaialable on the Xbox version. Oh and one last thing about the Xbox..I like it how it "blue screened" at E3...I find that most amusing. |

trog - It's Nintendo's marketing strategy. You want a console, buy a normal GameCube. You want a console that can play DVD's, get a GameCube Fusion (or whatever the GameCube/DVD player from Panasonic is going to be called). This way, Nintendo stays focused on games, and if the GameCube/DVD player doesn't sell, Panasonic will be the one who lose money. That's why it's called GameCube, because it plays games. They're minimising the loss they make on hardware. Sony lost alot of money with the PS2, because people bought it for the cheap DVD player, and have only bought on average 2 games for it. That doesn't regain the loss you make on hardware. XBox looks like it'll do they same, they're going to lose alot of money off the hardware, and they didn't show anything at E3 that indicates software sales will make up for it. Nintendo however, have made it a games machine, cutting out the $20+ per machine that has to be paid to the DVD Consortium, plus the extra hardware expenses (because a drive that reads both GODs* and DVDs would be expensive). Also, Nintendo don't need the GameCube to survive, they could get along on just the handheld market. But they're looking to outsell the N64, A new Zelda will definetly sell hardware and games, as will a new Mario game, and as a last resort they've got the Pokemon franchise. * GameCube Optical Disc |

Nintendo made more money than ANY software company last financial year...just shy of 1 billion dollars. Now thats an achievement. Don't worry about Nintendo going broke just yet. Also I think the N64 had the best multiplayer out of all last gen consoles, and the lineup on the GAMECUBE so far indicates that they have a strong line up of multiplayer titles...>SUper SMash Brothers Melee and Waverace anyone? 2 must have games with multiplayer. NOTE: I know I am a Nintendo fanboy...I'm proud of it! |

Yeah, I'd get a PS2 for MGS2, but that's only cause I like the Metal Gear series. I wouldn't consider buying the XBox version, I don't care if they say it's going to be better. I hope they announce it for the GCN (and they should remake the old games, MGS played so much like the second Metal Gear game it wasn't funny). |

True, Nintendo seem to be milking Pokemon for all it's worth, mostly through merchandising though, as the games seem pretty spaced out. They've supposedly got a Pokemon title lined up for the GameCube, which will definetly boost sales, as it's supposed to incorporate connectivity with the GBA game. So every kid who has a GBA and Pokemon will buy a GameCube. |

Omg Khel, your right, so many Nintendo Fanboys in here, i am gettin what your saying now. I have to disagree, Nintendo might of made the dosh last year, but thats thanks pokemon and the other 2 franchises( mario, zelda). They stole the Japanese market. Whoopy! You ask anyone, which is better N64 and PSX 09/10 they will say PSX ( minus fanboys ) Why? Because the PSX games were FUN TO PLAY. They MADE YOU WANT TO PLAY THEM. N64, looked "ok" (blurry textures YUK) And the psx had pixels. ( yukky) BUT the psx games made you "want to delve into the world" of the game and play it straight away. The N64 just looked pretty. No game on the N64 can do that. Not for a long period. Plus, did anyone find all of the N64 games too god damn easy? I mean ffs. Sony. They have their Franchises, (Final Fantasy, now GT MGS+more) When you look at a PS2 game ( next gen ones ) They MAKE you want to play the game. Look at all the latest releases Devil May Cry etc. Whereas AT THE MOMENT. (apart from rogue squadron) All of the GCN games are "mock ups" of N64 games with prettier ( less cutesy?) graphics. With the same gameplay. If Nintendo wants to take the GCN past the PS2. They are going to have to produce something revolutional. At the moment, the GCN games look "great" they seem to be running smooth etc. PS2 is the same. BUT I HAVE TO PLAY THOSE GAMES. That should be PS2's motto. As for MGS2. 3 More sleeps till i play the demo@QGL THANKS KHEL!! |

MGS isn't a franchise, MGS2 is the last Metal Gear game. Kaygen - there are far more games that make me want to pick up and play on the N64 than on the PSX. I'll agree the games did seem easier than the SNES games (with the exception of the Zelda games). The problem with the N64 was third party support. Everyone thought it was a kiddy console (which is sort of a self fulfilling prophecy really, because without third parties to make "mature" games, how is a console going to have any "mature" games). As for the debate that it's the same old gameplay, look at GT3, can you tell me it won't play like GT2? Can you tell me you won't see similarities in gameplay between MGS2 and MGS? Has the gameplay to any Final Fantasy game changed majorly since FFVI? Such a hypocrite. |

Yer gt3'll play like gt2, if they have the same model cars you tool. I am not against nintendo in any way. Just stating facts that PS2 games atm, are in the lead, Nintendo will need a miracle hopefully only 3 ( zelda, mario, metroid) to b king again back like the snes days |

No, I just don't see how that makes it any different. They add new cars, improve graphics and sound. That doesn't mean it won't play the same, and it doesn't make it any different from the GCN's games that you desribed as "mock ups" of N64 games. I'm proving that you're being hypocritical about the GCN as compared to the PS2. The PS2 is taking the exact same strategy, you make a few games which are improvements on a working game formula, and then you get games which are innovative. PS2, XBox and GCN all have their fair share of innovative titles. Just because the GCN is lauching with titles which are improvements on a working game formula, doesn't make it any worse than any other console (the PS2 did the same thing, Ridge Racer V, Tekken Tag Tournament). It's the way the developers learn to work with the hardware. I'm sure the 2nd generation GCN titles will be just as innovative as what the PS2 whas to offer(I'm looking forward to Pikmin, Picassio, Thornado, and Saffire, titles that won't be released till after the GCN's launch, all of which are pretty innovative). |

Ofcourse it will play the same, AFAIK cars haven't changed much in the since GT2 came out, you know, they still got wheels, doors. still move along at a fairly rapid pace when you hold the accelerator down.. |

They [only] stole the Japanese market Yeah, you never hear about any US people getting into trouble because of Pokemon cards. It's just a fad, I don't think they'll ever rate on the US sales charts... No, I just don't see how that makes it any different. They add new cars, improve graphics and sound. That doesn't mean it won't play the same As someone who's been playing GT3 for the last few weeks, I can say you're all full of s***. Just the fact that it runs at a solid 60fps makes it feel like a totally different game. Sure, it's the same mechanics, but it's like comparing Mario 64 to Crash Bandicoot. Or, a better example, GT2 to Need for Speed. |

Exactly. I mean, s***, how much different does it have to be? Its got new graphics, new sounds, new physics, new cars, new tracks... What do you expect? Its like saying "I'm kinda disappointed by doom 3, its just the same thing all over again. Sure, they've added new graphics and new monsters and new levels and it looks worlds apart from the previous Doom and its all entirely new... but its just the same" |

Well I have to agree with Khel, its a sequel and with racing games especially its hard to innovate. HOwever with Doom 3 I"m hoping they do more than simply revamp the graphics...I want more than simply another FPS shoot 'em up. The first year of the PS2 was fairly s*** in my opinion, but the next year looks impressive. Whichever you want PS2 or GAMECUBE you aren't really going to be disappointed. Both have MUST HAVE games, but from my point of view Nintendo has more. |

My point is you're saying the GCN sequels all suck because they're like the previous games in the series, but you're ignoring the fact that the PS2 has sequels which are like the older games in the series but are hailing them as innovative and saying they won't suck. Just becasue a title is a sequel, doesn't mean it sucks because some aspects of it resembles the previous games in the series. You're willing to say GT3 is cool, they added stuff since GT2. But Super Smsh Bros Melee is so crap, they added stuff to Super Smash Bros. Wave Race: Blue Storm sucks, they added stuff to Wave Race 64. See my point yet? It's like saying every Street Fighter game after Street Fighter 2 sucked, because they kept the characters. |

I'm a nintendo fanboy.. but I can only see a few good games on GCN. Starfox looks absolutely crap (graphics) as it is ported straight from the 64 and Is basically zelda with fox and arwing instead of link and epona. Luigi's Mansion looks horrible, and looks to have no replay value whatsoever. On the otherhand sony's main franchise ff has just expanded on the snes versions doing nothing but adding 5 billion more useless characters. They even screwed up chrono cross by giving it too many characters. MGS2 is probably coming out on xbox and gcn anyway so thats not an issue. Games like pikmin are awesome in theory but I can unfortuantely see it being a dismal failure cos I dont know anyone that wants to play an rts on a console. Hell, who am I kidding I'll end up buying one for a new mario kart game and zelda... I'm also a big metroid fan but this looks to be an fps which I think would ruin it so I think I'd prefer metroid 4 on the GBA. Oh, and eternal darkness and ssb2 look pretty cool so I'll probably buy one. |

I never said that the sequels on the GCN are going to suck, so that clears me out of that area. Luigis Mansion doesn't look fantastic but I still think there is something more to this game than Nintendo is telling us. Starfox looks good...RARE/Nintendo Adventure without all the bloody collecting s*** that made DK64 annoying. And Pikmin it isn't your normal RTS game now is it?? So I don't think you can put it in the general RTS category. |

ahahaha. You know a game is gonna be bad when they try and convince you its its own special genre. That way you can't say "phwoar, thats a pretty crappy adventure game" or "phwoar, thats a pretty crappy first person shooter". You're just left with this thing that you *know* on a sub-atomic level is crap, but just can't find the right way to express it. |

Yep, like Shenmue....and like Deus Ex......and like Theif. I can see how genre "busting" games are crap..good point there Khel! Its called innovation...I'm glad not everyone thinks like you otherwise we would haven't progressed past FPS's like Quake. |

Actually its Starfox is NOW like the Zelda Series on N64. "Lylat Wars" on the N64 was the way WE originally expected the GCN version to be, Instead they used the "zelda" engine ( they might not have, but it sure damn looks like it ). BUT the inclusion of different scenarios ie, flying the ship etc levels MAY change it from Zelda games only time will tell |

Gunpei Yokoi* was behind Metroid, and Miyamoto wouldn't have made a Metroid game if Retro weren't doing it, another Metroid game simply wouldn't exist (cause Gunpei Yokoi died in a car accident, someone else has to make it, and I doubt they'd just add it to Miyamoto's list). Nintendo suggested the move to first person perspective, not Retro, as they found the third person perspective wasn't working, there were too many issues with the camera. Nintendo would rather let the Metroid franchise be restricted to 2D or handhelds than release a dud title, so if Metroid Prime is going to suck, you won't get to play it. * He was also responsible for the GameBoy, and Kid Icarus. He left Nintendo to start his own company, Koto Laboratory, and was involved in the making of the WonderSwan. |
