DAMN YOU CHANNEL 10!

Thanks to stupid Channel 10 and the pathetic decision to put it on at like 11:30 on Saturday..I've only seen like 3 episodes from this season. Then of course the sensible thing to do is put the season finale on at 8:30 during the week...why the hell couldn't they have done that for the entire season damnit!

I'm disgruntled!

Man, mulder and scully should have had a glorius sex romp. And both turn into aliens.

Now that would be the coolest.

this episode actually had some potential, but it was a bit too drawn out to fill the 2hrs... as a long time fan i was dissapointed that this is how it all had to end.

I'm more disappointed to learn it's all ending in 2012.

Some of the acting was pretty dodgy, I've never noticed that before in the X-Files.

My 2 cents worth

Likes
- how they recapped in plain english the major conspiracy theories
- how Scully and Fox where all over each other
- how you get to see the cancer man get burnt , which means he is REALLY dead

DISLIKES
- Dead people talking to Mulder, and the reference in the final scenes of how "one must listen to the dead" or some crap like that
- Leaving it open with the alien judge becoming the boss of FBI (meeting with skinner at end of movie)
- Not getting the family together, the kid is still out there (All though i didn't see the episode where Scully gives him up)
- Dec 22 2012, gives too much time for fox and scully to come to the rescue of the human race, ie movies here we come

With all that in mind you didn't have to watch the last 9 years of episode but, simple watch the final 2 hours and think, "that was crap"

Very disappointed

I'm a pretty big X-files fan, but as far as I'm concerned the show ended at the end of season 7. By the end of season 7 pretty much everything had been brought together and wrapped up and the season finale of season 7 (minus the stupid tacked on "OMG I'm pregnant" bit from scully at the end) would have been an awesome and very apt ending to the series. The whole stupid super soldier storyline they invented to fill another 2 seasons was dumb and disjointed and eventually, as I expected when they started it, led nowhere. It was nothing more than filler to churn out another 2 seasons and make more $$$$. Its a shame such an awesome show will be remembered as such a hack because of those appalling final 2 seasons.

Having said that, I thought the final episode was Ok. It didn't really answer any questions or reveal any "Truth" that wasn't already revealed in previous episodes, except maybe for the exact date, but that in itself was a bit of an anti-climax. I watched it with a friend and we were all waiting for this huge, shocking Truth that Mulder was going to find out, then when he found it out we were both like "Oh... thats all?" While it wasn't up to the caliber of some of the stuff in the earlier seasons, it was better than most of season 8 or 9 and had more of the "old school" x-files feel to it. Of course, I'm sure 99% of that was just because it actually had Mulder in it. I mean really, what is the X-files without Mulder, they were stupid for ever thinking they could continue the show without him.

In my opinion, they should have gone the way of Star Trek. Ended the X-Files after season 7 then started a whole new spinoff show set in the same world with the Doggett and Reyes characters, about the search for Mulder and (when its uncovered) trying to stop this imminent colonisation. I could probably have lived with that. Even if it sucked it wouldn't be tarnishing the good name of the X-Files, it would be a totally different show. It would probably be more enjoyable too because rather than trying to continue as the X-Files and fill those shoes it would be its whole own series with the freedom to do things however it wanted.

Anyway, thats my rant on the subject.

They should have ended it with Mulder getting woken up as a 12 year old, by his sister, and us finding out the whole thing had been a dream.

Imagine the riots. :P

I used to be a huge x-files fan. I actually bought a few of my favourite episodes on VHS (Toombs and Dwane Barry spring instantly to mind)

However, as Khel said, as soon as Muldar left, that should have been the end of the series. I lost complete interest as soon as that Dogget guy was introduced, I kept expecting to hear the line 'Have you seen this boy?'

Anyway, it went the way of a series which started great, had a HUGE cult following (I remember IRC channels being full of 200-300 people at a time) :p and I used to enjoy it when there were some truely kickass episodes on.

I saw half of the 'final' episode and I was so confused by 40 minutes into it, I went out.

As one of the long time X-Files' fans, I have to agree with Khel. The X-files ended at Season 7. They should have left it as that.

I mean why does Chris Carter felt the need to end the X-Files, which in itself quite an unconventional story, ends in an oh-so-boring hollywood style happy ending?. I mean so what if there is no closure to everything?

I mean conspiraries *rarely* have closure, infact it would be a contradiction in terms wouldn't it. Also, I also think that when Mulder and Scully got together it ruined the whole characters chemistry. I liked it better when there are sexual tensions between them.

Anyway, I thought the ending was pretty weak. Infact the last 2 seasons were lame.

^^ agree with both of you.

What ever happened to those 1hr major subplot episodes that started and finished every season of the X-Files, they where excellent. They built up to the X-File's movie and continued along at a good pace. I assumed (wrongly) that this would be the finale of all those episodes, alas it didn't even come close to the standard of these previous episodes. All in all if sucked and only left you thinking, well when are they going to make the next Star Trek ooops I mean X-Files movie. It's like insurance for Carter, oh I can't make money on anything else so I'll release an X-files thingy that should beef up the bank balance. FFS I want closure!!! 9 f***en years I've invested into this conspiracy and I still have NFI as to who the f*** is in charge of it all.

Carter: You wnat the truth?
ME: f*** YEAH!!
Carter: You can't handle the truth.

EDIT
Mulder: The truth is out there.

there was never going to be any unspeakable truth. deep down everyone knew it. we all watched it knowing there was nothing there but still trying to fool ourselves into thinking that we held some sort of hope that there would be some unbelievable, unimaginable "truth". but it was always going to be imaginable, i mean a person came up with it. when dec 22 2012 was revealed as 'the horrid, horrid truth' that moulder had unnecessarily withheld for the entire 2 hours (that aspect was quite pathetic), i wasn't disappointed cause it was to be expected. indifference leaning towards "i could have thought of that. typical".

Yes the date for the "Armageddon" a.k.a "re-colonisation" was rather pathetic. Such tragic cliche, it has been done about a million times before.

I cringed when I saw the court room scene and the "I see dead people" scene.

That was it for me. The court room scene was especially comical. When the "old" characters were called as the witnesses to the give thier evidence to the possible conspiracies.

The most amusing part was when they reavealed all the supposely damning truth in sequential order. It's sounded more like a pathetic B-grade sci-fi than the X-files. They really abused the words "Aliens" and "Consperacies" in that scene.

Both my girlfriend and I are a big X-files fans, we just turned and looked at each other after the final episode and agreed that Chris has lost the magic touch.

I don't think I'll be buying the X-files DVD after season's 7.
