does anybody know the ins & outs of the various mobile phone carriers, telstra/optus/vodafone? basically im on vodafone prepaid atm, along with the person im wanting to talk with the most.. i've heard about people using the different 'free 20min' talk time after 9, and just continually hanging up before 20mins and call again.. is this really possible? whats the best carrier to get on to do this kind of thing? i think its only for people both on the same mobile network but does that include everyone, like can one person remain on prepaid & the other go on a monthly plan & still abuse the 20min freetime, or do both callers have to be on plans?

optus pre paid are far superior in my opinion, when you first buy a pre piad thingie, they give you two options.
1.free calls to another optus pre paid mobile for the first 20 mins from 9am - 7pm anyday of the week or 2.22c for the first ten minutes to any mobile phone in the country yes it is possible in number 1 situation to hang up before 20 mins and call back, everyone does it all the time, although the network is very busy after 9 go with optus pre paid |

optus pre paid is the biggest POS i have ever used! You NEVER get a call go through the first go at night time, "all the lines are in use, please wank while you wait". I was kinda happy my phone got stolen along with my sim card , gave me an excuse to get something else. Telstra plans are good, optus has the "tight time" which is good too, so you can chat for how ever long for free. Im on telstra now and have an outright phone so im happy :)

vodaphone has free s*** too, but i cant remember what exactly. I dont recommend optus pre paid, you get very very low priority on calls.

i am on vodafone prepaid, I dont think theres any free s***
they have the best regular call rates though 1c per second not the best SMS rates though, 25c... the thing is though, i can call someone and say s***loads more in 25seconds than i can in one SMS. I like it... and if you buy a phone from them, a) they are cheap, b) they have no contracts. |

yeh im on voda prepaid & im unaware of any free s*** like freecalls to other voda users unless you're on a plan.. i already have a phone so thats not the concern, 25c sms' are really wearin holes in my pockets.. basically i want to do whatevers the best option to specifically abuse freecalls, so i may call someone for lengthy periods of time hangin up every 20minutes & i dont want to be in any kind of contract whatsoever..

i had vodafone pre paid for a wile.. its good if u make short calls cos its like 1c a sec instead of like 37c for 30 sec or somehting with other companys.. after i ran out of credit i went to optus pre paid because of the "free time" where you can ring anyone else on optus pre paid for 20min for free then u just hang up call back but the other person has to be on optus pre paid too the times are 9pm - 7am but if the two people (one with optus plan one with optus pre paid) the person with the plan has to ring for it to be free because free time on pre paid only works with other per paid but free time on plan works with ANY optus mobile but the free time for the plan is 8pm - 12 |

A guy I spoke to from optus reckoned it was the billing systems which couldn't handle the load.. kinda makes sense because it's difficult to make metered calls from a prepaid during the 'yes' free periods.
My GF lives in Townsville and I have been yakking to her all year for 0c. It's great. Hope I don't get brain cancer :| |
