Ok i have a problem with my comp. for some reason when i type in format c: in DOS it formats my D: drive (my backup partition). Yet when i type in format d: nothing happens. Im running Windows XP. I thought maybe the labels were misnamed or something but My Computer shows C: drive as C: and D: drive as D:. I figured ill just format through command prompt. After the message that says 'are your sure you want to format drive c:', i say yes then it comes up with the message 'the drive is in use and the volume needs to be dismounted, all open handles on this volume will be invalid'. If i say yes, will it do something bad to my comp? i dont like the sound of something becoming invalid.

Yeah it should be perfectly fine. You are going to be formatting it anyway, if something goes wrong then what is there to lose???

Yeah, does the drive work, or is it an IBM 75GXP with its 60% failure rate?.. |
