No koopz you fool, it's now about 5 hours old on slashdot, and 3 days old on the original german news site. God, it might as well be carved into a stone tablet it is that old ;)

recently went to a LAN where all the machines were provided...what a pain in the ass, they were s***house even though their specs were above my own machine...also the peripherals (mice, headphones, keyboards) were of the worst quality imaginable...in short is sucked the big one!!

Seriously though... this was natslovRs origional post:

There's an aritcle here on SlashDot about that expensive 3000 player German LAN that's hitting the news recently. A lot of people are posting sentiments similar to my own, which is why would i _want_ to use someone else's PC? Lanning is about taking your box with your stuff somewhere and setting it up... not sitting down on a totally unfamiliar machine, without any of your utils/configs etc and playing games all day.. I'd be at a loss... I'd feel naked! What do you think? is it better that a LAN provides generic PCs for everyone, or BYO?
Another thing I like about lanning is the community/social aspects of it, with everyone being friendly (well until recently) and knowing one another - Don't you think that a 3000 player LAN will loose that atmosphere? Also, what is a LAN like when it is run to make a large profit? I'm guessing this one is for-proft, so will that also destroy the atmosphere and point of lanning? How would you feel knowing that you are just there to give the organisers another $200, and they don't really care whether you are getting an enjoyable day of gaming... just so long as you've paid?

I HATE taking my own box to lans, it's a pain in the ass. I have to find transport, I have to haul my huge ass monitor around, I have to go all the way back home when I've forgotten something, I have to hear other people bitching about different people's computers having different speeds making gameplay unfair.
