Good news for Brisbane people, a Borders has opened in the city (corner of Queen and Albert Sts). Borders is a huge - 3 story - book store which has what is basically the best range of books I've seen in Brisbane to date. Not only that, it sells CDs and DVDs. Definitely worth a look; they had a 20% off sale over the weekend (I meant to post about it when I found out but forgot, sorry - but not after I'd bought my share!). Unfortunately their prices aren't revolutionary - anyone else noticed that paperbacks somehow crept up to $20 a pop? - but the sheer size of it definitely makes it worth checking out.

Except it's f***ing expensive. Went there with tim... to buy DVD's and even with a 20% discount they were more expensive than the default price at jb hifi.

Though they did have a LOT of media that I've previously had to send away to amazon.com for, so if you are ever looking for a book that isn't available at most places try Borders because it'll be cheaper then sending away to the states for it.

i'd liken this place to what blockbusters is for a video store, you know if you go there its going to have what you want, but you know you are gunna pay through the ass for it...for example as teen was saying I went their to purchase Back to the Future DVD collection and it was 58(that included the 20%) off, I went to JB HiFi and it was 50. Now thats a fairly large difference.

Also teen you shouldn't order books from amazon.com they are by and large more expensive for shipping and costs than amazon.co.uk, my mum has bought probably 20 books from their cheaper than she'd have picked them up here..

Its a great store, absolutely packed on the day it opened, but its more reasonable now. I like the things where you take a cd to this device, scan the barcode then you can listen to the tracks from the cd before you buy it, thats useful.
They also have stores in Melbourne and Sydney (I understand its a US chain), and im told the Melbourne store is better. But the one here is still far better than any other bookshop in the city, so im happy.

Heh, as QANTM is like 10 metres away, and QBD is like across the road beside the new EB. I really like this little past-time centre.

I picked up two novels and a couple CDs as well. And yeah their normal prices remind me of Myer - ie: expensive :(

Still, they're worth checking out just as an alternative. Oh and I thought Borders was UK based but I may be wrong.
