Thetron sends word that bf42.com is reporting that Battlefield 1942 is topping the sales charts, knocking WarCraft 3 off its perch. Here's the top 5:
Battlefield 1942
WarCraft 3
The Sims
The Sims: Vacation
MoH: Allied Assault
Augh! The Sims is still there! When will it end!?

Yeah but 'The Sims: Pets' comes out very soon. That'll put BF in its place. And then The Sims: Online by the end of the year.

Congratulations. You just summed up your social life :)

It's addictive - underneath the facade of an "OMG DOLL HOUSE SUPER GAY SIM" game, there are RPG elements, like building up character stats and taking quests. It's just Wright et al managed to hide/polish the anal nerdy side very well.

Sure, it didn't really deserve 5 addon packs, but it was a good game.

Haha. Quests? Like "the quest to put the garbage out"? Or maybe "the quest to purchase the latest, unnecessary material possession from the nearest pillar-of-our-rampant-capitalist-society chain store"? Until the Sims allows me to be anti-social in much the same way as GTA3 I don't want a bar of it. If the sims online manages not to be a cockup it'll be great. In other words - I'd better be able to steal my neighbour's car or his garden gnomes, his cat, or perhaps steal his wife or something.

when i said 'sims: pets' i meant unleashed.

There's plenty of quests in sims. Saving up money to take you family on holidays. Maxing out your career path. Keeping all your 20 odd friends for each of your family happy. Trying to get two blokes to marry. Downloading new stuff you couldn't dream of owning in your real life and having your sims buy it and love using it like you know you would...

You (me) critisize evercrack addicts - that's nothing.. when sims online hits town it will be the end of the world as we know it. If your a geek who has difficulty picking up girls who aren't in chatrooms and you don't like the sims, you are farked.

I made this chick who lived on coffee, I managed to get her to the top level of her job without any sleeping, it was all coffee :D

Unfortunalty I had to micro manage her to drink the coffee otherwise she would pass out, she had no bed in the house.

So bf1942.com says that bf1942 is the best game at the moment. Isn't that similar to Oasis saying the're the best band in the world? Where is the cross check...oh I forgot this is the Internet. While I'm ranting lets talk about the SIMS. What cracks me up about this "game" is people who play the thing for hours on end tasking their sims to perform menial tasks, and then whine about taking out the garbage in real life. Perspective people.

Yer except you get much more enjoyment sitting down telling a little dude on the screen to take out the garbage then actually physically doing it yourself.

And another thing about the sims why don't they have days off, weekends? What about weather, do they catch disease? Does my digital character extension have to wear a raincoat? In short will I be living two lives concurrently?

Its not saying its the best game, its saying its the best-selling - best selling is objective and is based on sales data. Oasis saying they're "the best band" is totally subjective, and obviously wrong anyway.

Yeah that annoyed me - your character had no friggin respite from work and the little time you did have at home mysteriously went fast.

Very much more like real life than most of us suspect then.

Hunter wouldn't know about having a job in real life, so he has no basis for comparision.

Khel wouldn't know about me because Khel lives in a sheltered home for outdated programmers.

i didn't mind the sims
only one problem is the CD got scrached from leaving it out on the table and taking it in and out

i am worried now in a few months or earlier, since people must have the CD in to play the game it's gonna be scrached some how

Which is gonna sux

BTW. Trog you left out those stats are from the US Charts

The sims unleashed is going to be massive again with more jobs and pets it's dubbed to be as big as the original, so look out sims is still going to top the charts...

and if you geek boys don't like it remember that you are a very small % of the market, thus we don't care :)

Every new sims expansion pack i give the game another whirl, it's fun for a while then i realize that it's getting a bit humdrum (or the difficulty of getting and keeping family friends s***s me off). Always worth a shot though, it's come a long way since the first version.

pity, I dont think I am/will get my monies worth out of BF1942. Warcraft3 on the other hand I am quite pleased with, even if it was only for the ability to play on battle.net
