Topic: Rampage Prize update (web design)
Brett J
Posts: 29

As some of you are aware, Rampage is running a competition for the best web site design.

The winning entrant will receive one of these cases with the pre-moded' (Purspex) case window and some uber l33t http://www.gamedude.com.au/images/tri.jpgfans to top it off.
Also in the case when the winner gets it will be a copy of Soldier of Fortune II : Double Helix

Hints;
We are going for a professional / community feeling.

The color scheme is completely up to the individual.

It has to be simple enough for me to add and remove links later on down the track. (I have html /
paint shop / Photoshop experience)

HTML and image sources must be submitted to myself before or on Saturday at 4:00pm for final
judging.

Our name is 'Rampage'
Some other text you could include is 'Internet and Gaming' (Legal trading name)

Entries close on the 27th at 4:00pm.
The winner will be announced at 6:30pm the same night.
The winning entrants design will be placed on our server the same night and we will then ship the prize (or give it to the winner if you're there on the night)

Good luck!

[edit: these cases are super-uber. they come stock with an 80mm fan planted right infront of your HDD bays, front and rear USB, as well as front audio, mic and speakers etc. It also has a 350 watt powersupply]

picture up close, here (ignore my under-developed camera skills)

One more thing, everyone who submits an entry and doesn't win, will get a few hours free at rampage for their hard work.

Yes, that's what I mentioned before, you have to be able to replicate it in HTML format.

So you're generally better off doing it in HTML to start with and sending screen shots periodically instead of doing the whole thing just in mspaint.exe *g*

Update: just got off the phone with our supplier, they have hooked us up with another copy of SOF II, so a copy of SOF II will be located in the case for the winner of the competition.

Also I'm hearing a lot of people are requesting more time, if 10 or more people (from here) ask for more time,
I'll extend it until Saturday the 1st of August, any takers? (That's an extra week guys)

Oh dear god, its a flash sig... KILL IT QUICKLY, BURN IT NOW!!

erm, I would have a bash but my last effort, ... took long enough to do cause I could never concentrate on it... I doubt this would be any different.

I could take my site, take it offline, change the banner and content and youd have a site but then... I dont think youd want that :D

werd.

its kinda good though as it empowers those who otherwise wouldnt get a chance. Do we want watering down of IT tech skills, but an increase in the overall level of competence across the majority of applications.

In order for technology to advance to the point of it being a recognisable equivalent to our current depiction of the 'future' (e.g sci-fi/ futuristic thrillers / books [1984]) we must reach a point in our society where we accept technology as a facet of every day life - something that now only Generation neXter's are experiencing completely.

The youth are being empowered by this software, so in the future, assumed knowledge/competency can be utilised, leaving the remaining tasks to not primarily be training and supporting current (l)users, but R&D

future here we come.

way off topic.

rofl 800 x 600 whats that? you may use the horizontal scrollbar :D

i spose u could make buttons smaller but ud have a hard time fitting words onto them, or do u mean the bevels a bit lower?

/me switches to 800 x 600, oh god everything is so big arrrrrgh this res is arse!!! thats why the buttons looks so big to you :) they are like half the size the next res up.

yeah rubbas site just looks like a whole bunch of phong tutorials wacked together
Rubba-Chikin
Posts: 1348

theres a lot of tutorials at phong, most of the stuff on my page i already knew how to do, there are other tutorial sites for photoshop you know.

You have to learn how to use photoshop somehow, you arent born knowing.
Phong is a tutorial site whats wrong with using cool effects in a design.

nothings wrong with it but when your whole site looks like its made from tutorials it doesn't really make it seem like your work does it now...

ur gay rezo...

and yeah everything is heaps too big and 800x600 is what most sites should be made to fit anyways, when I get some freakin time I'll whack something together... (not using phong tutorials)

there isnt many other ways to lean, i dont know of any photoshop courses around... so if you could point me in the nearest direction, but it would still be the same thing, someone showing you how to do someting.

the only tutorials from phong i used was the wire thing, and a reflection tutorial...

i havent seen the wire anywhere else anywhere, so i didnt see a problem.

the difference is anyone can do a tutorial, to actually learn what the tools, effects and filters do is a totally different story.

by actually doing a course you're learning a lot more than just 'how to do tutorials' like you think.

note to rubba
Keep up the good work, you need to stream line it a bit. Its all well and good to make a site look pretty but remmeber that not all users are going to be on cable.

I really shouldn't have pointed out the phong tut's bit applogies for that, but the work that you are producing is avg. But it seems to be getting better. You have some good design ideas and seem to produce em with some level of efficancy.

ephlix also great metal effects I think thumbs up for the design!

Uhmmm... rezo is a f***in tosser.

Who gives a s*** how he is learning, do I just give s*** to you because your learnt to ride a bike with f***ing training wheels or your daddy holding onto the seat rather than taking a uni course? f***in retard.

Just because you might be doing/want to do a tafe/uni course in photoshop, does not mean that is necessarily the best way to learn, people learn differently and more effiently in different methods to others...
Not to mention you hve to start somewhere, so I dont see what your problem is.

make it fit 800x600.... if u look @ any good site... it caters 4 800x600+ (expect of couse QGL which is ALMOST 800x600 if they moved the "hosted by ausgamers" button)..

800x600 is the minimun these days...

& they said they wanted a professional site aswell as a community bassed 1.... 800x600 is proffessional.

ok then .. sure let ppl use a device to practise .. whether it be training wheels or phong .. BUT

how many ppl do u STILL see using the training wheels after they have learnt to ride? NONE

so ... u do a tutorial .. learn the techniques and then u apply them TO YOUR OWN DESIGNS! u dont just blatantly rip stuff

and redo the phong tuts cause ur metal wires dont even look like theirs

i hate to be harsh to put u down but if everyone keeps holding u by the dick when ur doing things just average .. then ull never get better

I thought you were a leet notepad coding master?!

you don't have to goto all that trouble when you could simply change whatever your design is so it is easily streched or actually ENDS at one point. then with MAGIC TABLES you can make it repeat for ever.

If you dont have any grips, im sure i could get sometime rather l337 happening, but you'd have to give a little time to whip something up.
