Hey Guys,

I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me this, im going to get get a old commodore soon and i wanted to which one would have more power and performance.

VK EFI 3.3 L or a VL 3L.

Only reason im asking this is because i dont know much about the nissan engine that the VL uses, and sience thats full injection and not carbie like the VK im not sure.

Thanks Heaps

u can get a VK with injection but i dont think there were too many made and they are all leaded (when stock)

the VL engine is more powerful even than the injected VK so id say get that (plus its unleaded)

Awww i seem to like the look of the VK alot better for some reason.

Yeh thats what i thought about the VL, though i may get it and do up the VK if ive got the cash. I just love the car.

Most VK's were EFI I think (well, the sixes, anyway) and I've heard they weren't too great, mainly coz they were the first EFI model. That's what I've heard, anyway.

VL's have a Nissan 6-cyl engine in them, and supposedly they're almost unbreakable. They also handle a turbo pretty nicely. Being a larger-capacity version of the Skyline 2.6l 6-cyl, there are plenty of high performance parts available (multi-valve heads, etc, etc, etc) I've heard of VL's pulling some awesome figures - even as low as a 10 second quarter mile!

Plus, VL's look better. :)

There is nothing wrong with Commodores, and there is nothing wrong with Volvos (i guess).

vl use a nissan skyline engine and the 6's standard are dam quick (manuals are a fair bit quicker than auto)... if you get a turbo the insurance and all that will cost lots plus you'll kill yourself with all the power

i think vk's look tougher than vl's by far, plus the v8's sound like they have much bigger balls!

get a vk brock ss and you'll never look back :)

Dude - the standard turbos aren't that fast.... they only do about a mid 15 quarter on a good day. The standard sixes are ok (having a Nissan engine makes the VL the only commodore I would touch), but they could hardly be called damn quick.... maybe compared to an Excel...

come on boys seriously, do you know why they use a nissan engine? Cause nissan fkn own. Had to change the rules of the tourning car championship just cause the skylines kept flogging the competition. nuff said.

VKs have quite a few problems (hell most Commodores do), fuel pumps are stuffed, auto-transmission is dodgy, the electronics in them are pretty crap, etc. But I don't think the VL is much better. Why do you really want the performance? Racing? You could get better go from a smaller car. And certainly if you've only got a stock engine in the VK. If it's just for general performance (highway driving and whatnot) then you don't really need a Commodore and decent 6 cylinder is fine.

re: Duke's response, it's aimed more at Jap import owners but check out The Riceboy Page it's all about cars that look "tuff n sht".

just go with your commys boys, dont buy a skyline, even though i orgasm when i see one (ive seen about 5 other R33's on the road) id rather be one of the fewer owners who have one :)

only seen 1 R34 so far, which is the owners (im guessing) outside of skyline imports.

Yeah go buy your gay Commondores.... If you actually intend to use the pitiful performance they have, you will be paying s***loads for fuel, and it will only last you about a year and then the motor/transmission and/or about 20 other things will s*** themselves.

Hmm... most people write here that you shouldn't get a VK - so you get a Vk... hmm....

Still - I don't mind the way they look and if you do it properly you could end up with a good car, that is if you fix all the s*** that Holden got wrong.
