Ahhh one of the benefits from having worked at a soon-to-be-shut down site is the ability to post URLS without guilt:

Serious Sam review.

(Short version: I liked it.)

Be quick, who knows when the webspace will be finito :)

Just who do you include in your description of 'we'?

Believe it or not some people base their judgment of games from what they read about them, rightly or wrongly.

Oh and stop that ooher s***, it's f***ing gay.

err you base whether you like a game or not on what someone else writes about it even though their tastes may be different to yours? wtf?

"The sum effect these issues have on single player? Very little. The challenge factor is reduced from out thinking one opponent and is converted into trying to deal with the overwhelming odds against you. "

that sums up why I'm playing it very nicely.
if you don't dig it - play somewhere's else

serious sam is made for co-op dont knock it until you've had an 8 player slaw fest, its insane.

the game itself doesnt have staying power, its really quite a short game too. But at least give it a hammering just mucking around with a bunch of mates (if you have any) before you write it off.

I saw a bit of info recently about Serious Sam being optimised for Matrox DualHead - basically, the second output can show tactical info or something.

my GF2-MX has duelhead, but when I tried to run a movie on the tv at the same time as use internet explorer on the monitor it slowed my pc to a crawl.

I dont know want to know what it would do to an FPS

i'm impressed by what they've done with it...

an awesome looking engine thats runs beautifully even on my flatmates s***ty old o'clocked cel 450.

although something worth mentioning was that the texturing appeared to break down in parts from time to time. ???

has anybody else had this?

Acid: That's coz nVidia sux0rs. :)

If you want dual output (whether 2 monitors, or 1 monitor and 1 TV) then you HAVE to go Matrox. nVidia's solution isn't working well from what I've heard, and Matrox have just improved theirs a tonne. They now have proper multi-display support under win2k (they've circumvented win2k's limitations), plus you now don't need to reboot to change some settings in win9x/me.

But from what it sounds, this Serious Sam DualHead version is only supported by Matrox, because it requires 3d acceleration over the two outputs, which I don't think anyone's been able to do up until now.

yeah, but then you'd have some gaybar card with s*** FPS :P

Don't know about you, but I'm happy with my 125fps in q3a. :)

It averages out to about 70-80 at a guess. Plus it beat some GeForce 2 MX systems in that 3dmark2001 thread. Granted that was due to my processor.

heh - and with a the level editing tools packed in, and support for mods, this game is a developer/gamers dream.

'wondering if Nats sees SS worthy of support via SQ.

Fun game. And for those lanless ppl, it was the full version being played. I guess I play it until B&W comes out :)

Make sure you look for my name (Damian Wegner) in the final credits guys! I was a play/beta tester for Croteam and hopefully will be for their future stuff.

Wether you like the game or not, I am pretty chuffed to have my name in the credits of what I reckon is a fun kick arse FPS shooter and to have helped in my own small way to it's release...but then again I am a shallow sort of person. :)

I would however urge you all to support the Croteam guys and BUY the game given the chance...they will do even more impressive stuff in the future...you wait and see...

Geez people, can't you enjoy a game anymore? Whats this s*** about crap physics, sif you even want physics in a game like Serious Sam. Its not about realism, its not about physics its about total and utter slaw and nothing but. Its pure mayhem and pure fun and it doesn't pretend to be anything else. It successfully re-creates the absolute craziness of the good old days of Doom and Doom 2 co-op.

The engine is awesome, to keep up the level fo detail it does while having literally s***loads of monsters on the screen at once, its just an incredible amount of fun. The weapons are all totally uber and cause massive amounts of slaw, its all good!

As for boring? Really, I dont know what game you're playing, but obviously not Serious Sam. I played through the game at least 3 times co-op at the lan, as well as playing various levels (usually the last one, that level rocks!!) many times.

Oh, and if you're not playing on Serious difficulty you dont know what you're missing; the slaw just gets bigger, badder and more intense than ever before! Beat it on that and you get another difficutly level where the monsters fade in and out of visibility! Insane fun!

Its pointless playing on serious in singleplayer. Your five year old sister would stand more of a chance against the whole of SAS in CS. But in multi coop, there is no other way to play...
