sygate should work ok, unless it's under 2k then u could have problems. winproxy also works well, very well :) |

Also note the requirement for two nics in the PC on the cable side of the network. Lots of ppl forget that and hence have trouble working it out :) |

you dont need anything for win2000 machines :) you might need BPA login tho coz telstras launch pad was made not to work with ICS :) http://bpalogin.trontech.net/ |

ics in windows 9x (dont think 2k but not sure) blocks the port that BPA sends the heartbeat to, meaning that your puter wont send a reply, meaning....that bpa will drop you from the network cause it thinks you are not there. They send a heartbeat every 6 mins or so. The patch is just a registry entry affecting ICS |

Sygate is s*** so is ICS take squarkys advice (cant believe i just said that (j/k)) and put winproxy on one of your computers easy to setup and use and is reliable also has pretty good security or get a linux box and make it a NAT with a firewall like i have :) |

use winroute, it is awesome and you have control over the dhcp. is easy to set up. but YOU MUST HAVE 2 NETOWKR CARDS in the server machine to do it. to set it up first download it from www.winroute.com install winroute and reboot the machine once rebooted double click on the winroute icon in the systray (beside the clock, little blue circle thingy) click ok to log in with no password click settings > interface table double click on the netowrk card that is connected to BPA click on both check boxesmake sure no other interface adapter is turn ON, if so double click on it and unselect all tick boxes. once all correct click ok now give your other netowrk card an ip address 192.168.0.1 This is done clicking on start>settings>control panel > network and dial up connections. right click on the netowrk card connected to the other machine then left click properties double click on internet protocol(tcp/ip) select "use the following ip address" then for the ipaddress enter 192.168.0.1 for subnet use 255.255.255.0 leave the rest blank click ok go back to winroute click on the button that has DHCP written in green then select enable dhcp click "new scope" from = 192.168.0.10 to = 192.168.0.100 subnet = 255.255.255.0 click on default gateway and enter 192.168.0.1 into the specific value field click on dns server and enter 192.168.0.1 in the specific value field click ok that is the server set up. to set up the client, make sure it doesn't have an ipaddress specified. and then at the command prompt in windows, get there by clicking start > run then type in cmd {press enter} and you get to the commadn prompt, then type ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew if all correct then should say Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 1: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.10 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 then you are set to go, don't use any proxies on the client machine or any automiatic settings just use the net as though you would on the bpa machine. if any quireies icq me on 13822740 |

All the people that reply if u don't have telstra, I will inform u about a little thing call closed ports if these ports are closed telstra closes the connection to that modem cause it can not send what people call a heart beat with out knowing what ports to open sygate winroute and all those windows based programs with not work |

man I got bpa there are three dns number they are 61.9.208.13 61.9.208.16 24.192.1.30 (pop3) names server are qld.bigpond.net.au bigpond.net.au net.au if someone knows the ports needed for the heart beat then u can use what ever program u want... I think I will ring telstra and ask them myself or email, email would be easier and i'll post them ok |

microant, are you saying that winroute won't work over bpa? coz winroute uses nat not proxy, and i have it runnining here. although dad and i have our own accounts coz he got annoyed when i took my puter away fro mthe house but when ppl come over they connect to the lan hub and they get ip from my dhcp and have instant net access. btw i have 2 hubs in the house, 1 hub is a 12port 10 meg hub for telstra, only network cards that have a bpa login plug in there and the other is a 8port 10/100 hub, htis is for the lan and my shcp is running on this hub. so if u plug into the 8port u get cable through me and the 12 port u get cable directly through telstra, but u have to use your bpa account. Easy and good set up. btw never plug your modem into your lan hub, i ran a lan here at my housr with 24 puters, and had 33 ip's off of my modem that night, cable didn't work called telstra and they didn't like me haveing 33 ip's on the one modem, so that is y i run 2 hubs. telstracan only see who is plugged into the 12port. ne one behind me is invisible to telstra. |

I'd agree with capto, winroute is a very stable NAT gateway. I've had 18 machines on a lan using my machine as the gateway, and winroute is ideal. U can also use it as a firewall. |

OK dood key word u said there was u have two accounts of couse it will work :P what i'm saying is it won't work with just one account but if u know those ports I keep talking about u don't have to pay an extra $11 per person... At my house 5 people share one cable connection but currently I use linux to share it and it has been really good but I just want to get rid of it and use my machine cause I need a spare machine for other s***. If Stez only has one account all those programs will not work. |

i have had 25 puters behind mine, although that day i did ask ppl not to use the net but it was still there, plus i have also had 7 puters behid it playing hl tgether over the net, we did lag ocassionally wen bandwidth usage was high but still worked. we worked out that 6 is the max amount of ppl to have on one account plaing cs. now we use 3 bpa login's and direct ppl to different machines, this is done by actually specifying ip's, gateways and dns's and haveing 3 winroutes machiens but it works well. althhugh when we do this we can't have dhcp running coz of confliction dhcp servers and it is a hastle to set up secondary dhcp's. btw are qgl running dhcp this time? i no last time that they ran into problems with conflicting dhcp running but if you do a tracert to the dhcp server is resolves the netbios name, there fore finding the 12yr old sk that doesn't no they have ics, winroute or sygate running. |
