Um yeh as the subject said getting DSL (woot) on friday and was wondering what sorta ping i'd be getting.. I know its not as fast as cable.. but yeh. bout 2km from the exhange ( which is new..) and 256/64 which Ive been told is (32k capped) but people with 516/128 connections ( think its that ) said I would get the same ping as them which is around 60-100... would use agree on that? or disagree.. thnx alot. |

jesus WarT take ur time replying man!.. lol ok well this is how it goes down, parents said its either 256/64 or 56k... that was the choice I had... I stand by the choice I made =) long as the ping is under 100.. and anyway.. even if it was 124k/sec someone.. possibly you would still complain =) |

yer the price is a frikkan JOKE!!! im paying $78 a month for 216/64.. It should be DOUBLE that for $78.. Not happy at all about the price... it BETTER be good or I shall be ringing telstra on an hourly basis and complaining.. ( good thing that telstra's number is free-call) muwhah ;p Overall they will win tho =( |

I am at Ferny Hills and have got the ADSL poor mans plan 256/64. It is capped and I get pings between 110-130. Never anything under 100. I average 25k on downloads 25 x 10 (8+2 a couple of extra bits in the sum for redundancy) = 250. So I am hitting the ceiling on my connection.Go Optus cable if you can get it in your area. Otherwise, ADSL will have to do. I do experience some server drop outs, but it is nothing like the ones you can get on dialup. |

If you gave away the opportunity to have cable and got DSL instead..... YOU ARE f***ING NEWBIES DSL is for downloads only, don't expect a decent ping at all. Of course there's packetloss and dropouts, what else do you expect from telstra. I would be expecting a ping of anywhere from 100-150 to the ausgamers servers on telstra DSL |

telstra are installing new city based routers fairly soon ive heard so you wont be routed through melb anymore if you're a bris bpa adsl customer |

Fairly soon? I was told fairly soon in November - don't hold your breath, they're probably still patting themselves on the back for fixing the network issues they have been having over the last fortnight. |

Of course he told you your connection was the fastest in brisbane max... he's a telstra worker.. they feed you all sorts of bulls*** to make dumb c***s like you feel special. Now shut the f*** up and go back to playing on your third rate bpa cable =P |

Apologies - detailed rant - hope there's some useful content within. I have had Telstra ADSL since mid January. I'm about 1km from the exchange in Woolloongabba. I use RASPPPoE as a connector - the Telstra default one is clunky. You average 70 to 110 pings for good servers, heaps more at around 150 give or take a few dozen msecs. 255/64 or 512/128 makes no difference - latency and speed capping are completely different things. It is DAMNED expensive, just as BPA cable was before competition arrived. There are server outages like anywhere, but I've not heard of as many horror stories as I have with people's cable connections. That could be because I know very few ppl with ADSL, but whatever. You won't ever want to go back to dialup. There's no lag but server-side lag. Upload on 256/64 is ridiculous so don't get aspirations of starting your own FTP or whatever. IMHO the difference between a cabler and me on ADSL in terms of ping advantage is real but not unfair in q3, and makes almost no difference in CS. The difference from ADSL to dialup is a lot more significant than the gap the other way. Oh - and I have two telephones, the ADSL modem an answering machine and approx. 25 (yes 25) metres of Dick Smith-bought phone extension cable in there. Installation went smoothly at this end, but the dweebs at the exchange enabled the jumper on the line NEXT to mine which held everything up a few hours until they fixed it - but what do you expect from Telstra? |

yay! got it =D get like 70-100 ping normally, average is about 90.. just depends.. the DSL install guy (IAN) was a frikkan IDIOT tho, I basically had to show him HOW to use a PC, and HOW to install it etc... ffs I think he should have paid me for the installation, and to top it off, he setup outlook express wrong, forgot to give me the number to call if I had any problems, and forgot to write down the username and password ( which I found out via a nice program =D ) THEN he couldnt get the speedtest to work.. omg =\ so he had to call some other hobo to come over and they BOTH couldnt get it to work.. so they asked ME to try it and I got it to work. *me thinks of future career as a telstra DSL installer* lol, what a job.. so easy.. then again not for the people who work @ gheystra. |
