id Software have a new website! Shacknews points to this article on DoomWorld.com which has painstakingly trawled through it looking for any reference of the new Doom game. A nice looking new site that will keep you amused for a few seconds (until you realise there's no Doom stuff).

I think they making it in the style of the next doom game. Considering it is going to be huge, might as well make the website match the style somewhat.

Define 'huge'.

If you accept that Q3 (and to a lesser extend, Q2) represent declining interest in 'fantasy' FPS, with realism-based fps on the rise, just how big do you think Doom3 will be?

I'm hoping it will be massive, but I wonder just how popular it will be given that id are sure to dumb it down even further from Q3.

I think Q3 was a bit of a joke on id's part... I'm sure the new game with completely and utterly rape ass over anything else ever made in the genre. The only reason the fantasy FPS genre started to fail is because the games made in that genre (since Q2) have been gay....

yeah gobo ive always thought about the trends that go through fps games.

in the beginning there was quake and quake multiplayer grew and grew, than came along quake2 and they still put an effort into single player. As more and more people starting getting online the developers thouht they'd try and get on the wave. I remember reading something where one of the id guys goes 'yeah we spend 95% of the time making the single olayer levels, yet a majority of time is spent by people playing the multiplayer maps that we just threw together at the end'.

and so quake3 and unreal tournement grew out of this seed, only their multiplayer focus wasnt received as well as the developers would of hoped.

And now we are moving onto the next set of games

...oh and half-life and counter-strike is somewhere in there, with about 37 billion dips***s crouching round corners, and hence there is a trend towards more realistic fps

When Quake first came out though ... ppl were more amazed just at the ability to fps multiplayer & look up & down !!! :P I don't see any one game getting that sort of reaction ever again. As game develeopers have found since then .. just adding coloured lighting, goobering the guns & slowing the whole show down JUST DUZZN CUT IT !
IMHO doom3 will be a cool single player game ... its multiplayer aspect will be colourful & short-lived.

P.S. The new site duzz look pretty lame.

Then again, Doom3 could absolutely kick ass. Remember when UT came out with all that stuff in it ? Imagine that in a doom style setting. There's all sorts of s*** that's possible.

UT? Hahahahhaah - nice of you to admit you're homosexuality!!!

Unreal was pretty good singleplayer, but any multiplayer associated with it is GAAAAAAY!

Doom 3 is going to be the best game ever, if you don't think that you're living in a fantasy world with elves, leprechauns, and other assorted mythical creatures.

Have you read the gear on purchasing one of their engines you user in your game???

Pretty interesting - esp the Q3 engine ($250,000 + one full day to meet Carmack & question him etc...)

lol @ Trog if the latest incarnation of Doom turns out to be short lived :P

What are you people, stupid? (don't even bother to answer it)
Doom3 is the tech which will bring us the truly great awe inspiring game known simply as Quake 4 (by Raven,) id. have been known for creating ground breaking tech over the years (pity CyClones was better than DooM, but what can you expect from no multiplayer.)
But it has been Raven that have actually been refining the aspect of storytelling in a game, they have a great track record in fact and have worked with id. for a long time.
If anything, DooM 3 will have a mediocre storyline and will be all eyecandy and no substance.
Quake 4 is where it's at, no question about it. It will have depth to it, it will have decent level design and it will actually make sense!

Oh and as for the brown id. site, look at all id.'s previous work... predominantly brown.

well I like the site, so there. Their website really needed an update anyways ;) and Doom 3 will rock, no doubt about it.

What is it with you f***ing victorians. Did you get together and say, lets annoy the cool Queensland folk by posting on there forums with s***ty cartoon sigs? :P

Really though, I think the id website could have been much better. The fact that doom was so good will mean stacks will by it from that alone. Plus I dont think that there has been an id game which hasn't done well/broken game. If you look at the more recent doom/quake line.

Yes really, WOW! indeed...

You've just described pretty much the whole id. software lineup (q3 is just a tech demo, not a real game)

Achlles, I agree. ID should stick to making excellent engines but let people like Raven make the "Games"

Unreal 2003 and Deus Ex2 will rock your jocks for sure.

...and another thing. Surley we must be getting close to a Doom3 tech test or something. Absolutley zero is leaking out of ID at the mo.

Isnt this thing supposed to be out this US thanksgiving?

No, it's not due for release until either the end of this year or the beginning of next year.

Unreal Tournament 2003 is coming out in the next couple of months, and Unreal 2 is more like end of year/start of next year.

The new unreal engine is awesome, of course, and the new inbuilt physics engine and mod-support is going to be great for the community. I'm more interested in the unreal games and others made with their engine than Doom 3 at this stage.

Q2 was f'n awesome singleplayer.

q3 is just a tech demo, not a real game
Well, keep thinking that.

sheesh

when carmack wrote the first thing about it, he said everyone would need around a 1 gig CPU and a GeForce 3 to get 30fps. The game is nowhere near out yet.

id have ALWAYS been at the forefront of graphics technology in FPS games. Fact.

You've ALWAYS needed a good PC to make the most of your id games. But you've always been able to lower graphics settings and stuff to make it more playable.

Anyway, if you're whining about this now, you suck, go back to CS and keep trying to pretend its not a f***ed game.

trog getting angry about ppl questioning id is the bestest funny stuff!

it's a fact that id make great engines, but without the romero they are NOTHING. NOTHING

Even Paul "Buttsex" Steed was shipped out because he had a personality.

I cant wait to see what Q4 shapes up, Raven aren't the gods everyone makes them out to be but they have a more gameplay bent than id do, who admit that their multiplayer success with quake was accidental, and an afterthought.

And this is merely facts, I'm still a id fanboy who rocks trogs world at every quake barring gay2, which is all crap.

Raven makes fps' that look good, but feel exactly like fps games 5 years ago.

If i wanted to press buttons and blow up barrels i could go play quake 2. Lets see what they can do with SOF2, though, maybe it won't suck.

Raven aren't that good from what I have seen. JK2 was boring as s*** in terms of single player, multi was good, so yer. As it stands iD make better games, not just engines, as raven!!
