Gamespy has done an interview with executive producer of the MMORPG Shadowbane. Full Interview over at Gamespy.com
Shadowbane, developed by Wolfpack Studios is a fantasy MMORPG currently in closed beta test. The game seems to be shaping up. It'll be one of the most beautiful online RPGs when it comes out, but will it launch smoothly? What will it bring to the table you can't get anywhere else?
What rather interested me about the interview was how Ubi Soft and Shadowbane deal with the many pitfalls of current MMORPG in the _life_ after levelling your character.

I think he means rpg. But yeah, I agree, there is a severe short of games with evil magic users that are actually worth playing. Diablo 2 is the only one of recent time that springs to mind. Sure theres necromancers in baldur's gate but they're gay, stupid, D&D necromancers. Or as you mentioned, theres the necromancer in EQ who is now also gay and stupid. Necromancers did own EQ at the start, but not because they were a particularly hardcore class, just because they were the easiest to exploit. And even since the start EQ has been incredibly biased towards evil characters

I remember my first EQ character, years and years ago, was an evil Dark Elf Necromancer and there was only 1 town in the whole world I could actually go in and not get killed on sight. Not to mention the shopkeepers out in the wilderness that would take a dislike to me and just smack me down for the hell of it. Sure, I was pretty evil (Dark elf necro worshipping the prince of hate), but in my opinion it should have been a bit more even. I dont mind getting killed on site in a bunch of places, so long as there is an equally large number of places I can go to due to my evilness that good people get killed on sight at.

Maybe it wasn't "just" your character that was pissing the shop keepers off ....... ;)

This topic is about MMORPG's to start with toll, war3 is more a RTS than anything like an RPG.

And we all know EQ is old and crappy :P

You should probably be aware that Ubisoft is ONLY the North American publisher of Shadowbane. The Publisher who has Australia is En-Tranz Entertainment (http://shadowbane.en-tranz.com).
