okay, so i've got this problem thats been on and off s***ting me for the last month.

Sometimes, when I run anything that kicks in opengl hardware accel my pc just freezes mouse curser stops moving.
This includes Quake3, half-life (when the OGL part kicks in) DivX's realplayer, s*** like that.

Its really goddam annoying having to do like 20 reboots with full scandisks/lost chains a day. Weirdest thing is, I was playing mp3s when it happened today and they kept playing (was actually when I tried to look at that BDO webcast).

Now the Main offenders are my TNT1 (old faithful) and my 2, just as old, hard-drives.
sometimes after installing different det drivers over the top it rights itself, only to f*** up again later.

My cpu is currently over clocked, but its a celeron at 100MHz so it should not have any effect on this (besides it happens when its not overclocked).

Ive reset my refresh rates all to 60's doesnt seem to help, ran it with or without powerstrip, TNT isnt overclocked. Really not sure what other info I can provide, just that I've done a f***load of troubleshooting and im at a wits-end, its a gamble everytime I try to load q3.

Basically what I'm hoping is someone has seen a prob like this before and its just some ghey bios setting that time forgot. (I've been reading support forums n stuff, and people with AMD's and gforces have a similar problem till they run some fix).

I don't think I'll bother giving it any thought, seeing as you started off by calling us all fagets. :)

nah, kidding...

My pc occasionally screws up when starting Quake 3. I think the system still functions, just Quake3 won't release control for me to get to task manager or alt-tab out or anything... only does it occasionally.

That used to happen to me.

Replaced my vid card and motherboard and all was fine.

Tho Im not sure which one was causing the problem =]

is the agp/fsb ratio 2/3?

a 1/1 ratio can cause that problem also s***ty ram/power supply and overheating can too

ehehe, well im doing a nuke install, repartitioning and all the trims.

see how it goes after. I really dont feel like buying any new parts or spending money on my pc, specially a vid card cause ill end up getting something stupid like a GTS and i'd rather buy other stuff for now :P

I'd be really suspicious of your det drivers. Sounds like lots of people are having problems with them, so perhaps that's the reason.

i'd suggest installing quake2 or someother opengl game and if it dont lock up like q3, then u know it's not your vid card or drivers, the problem will be in q3.

it doesnt appear to be a heat prob, cause as I said, its on and off.

it happens sometimes when all my case fans are on, but other times it runs fine when my fans are off.

my ratio is at 2/3's

How old is your windoze install and how many different video card drivers have you installed on there?

Have you updated direct x as well as drivers?

WarT: that's a bit personal isn't it? I mean you just don't come straight out and ask a man how big it is...

ok, UN-install DX, you can get a un-installer from a pcpp cd. and then save your desktop crap, and anything in your windows folder. then delete your windows (through ms-dos) and install your type of windows again.

then install DX-8.0 and then try games, you only need to enter your cd-keys again...

that should fix it.

And get 2x 12mbs voodoos up ya ;D

and it that STILL fails, get someone that has a tnt like \yours and copy their opengl32.dll off them.

also could be a RAM problem, so just add -heapsize 64000 (for 128mb of ram, just type half.) in the cmd line in the shortcut.

I hope something helps.

I mean, un-install DX, then re-install.

change opengl32.dll

then ram.

then windows :P

Hint: Voodoo 2's are cheap now :)

you might wanna check if SBA (side band addressing) has been enabled too cause some older motherboards like the 440LX mobo cant seem to handle it... grab
nvmax or powerstrip and check

probably just borked driver un-installs though

i just had a heap of trouble which i believe was caused by the latest det drivers. i kept getting a ddhelp.exe error f***ing up with a nvidia driver, basically i worked out that whenever direct draw was used, i got a ddhelp.exe error, couldnt run movies, play games, run dxdiag. anyway, an uninstall of directx and reinstal of it, as well as replacing the new drivers with older ones has fixed the problem for now, oh yer, 10gig hdd, i had 1.2gigs worth of lost files
