The "is there life after Dreamcast" saga continues, with Sega of Japan finally issuing a public press release that officially confirms their plans to develop for other platforms, including the Gameboy Advance and the PS2. They say this will in no way impact their Dreamcast support, saying there are at least 100 new games due for release over the coming year for the system.

IGN have a summary of the press release plus some details about what games Sega has lined up for Dreamcast owners over the coming year.

More information is expected soon when Sega of America have their say.

Before everyone goes "hey, sega's dumping the DC", lets remember one thing: It's not actually Sega who is developing for the PS2 - In fact, Sega haven't made a DC game in a while! Sega sold all of their software dev companies (AM's 1-9) to their parent company, CRI. All of the games that you associate with Sega are now actually CRI developers (Shenmue, Daytona, Crazy Taxi, Jet Grind), and the AM's have all been given fancy names like Hitmaker (except for AM2, headed by Yu Suzuki, and the already-named Sonic Team).

When this announcement was made, the heads of each studio were interviewed in a mag (Next-Gen), and the question was "Are you going to be making any non-sega games", and their response was "We are researching into it". The only reason they were, was because they weren't bound by being a Sega company.

Bleh. It's too early to rant.
