Dell have lifted details on their new "all powerful" gaming laptop - a portable PC powerful enough to meet the needs of most hardcore gamers simply called "Ultra Mobile Gaming System". There are no details on pricing or when it will be released in Australia as yet, but we'll chase down our local Dell reps to find out, so stay tuned and just enjoy these images below, or hit up the official site. |

Would be nice but really it is a mid range desktop at 10 times the price.

I really don't understand advertising laws... How can they state you can play all games at 720p? How can they state "without compromise"? At best this must mean you can play any game at full graphical settings at 720p without slowdown. At worst you could argue that if a game supports > 720p resolution then you're already compromising...

Saying PC games are 720p or 1080p seems retarded to me in general. I was playing games in higher resolution than 1080p back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth |

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I can't actually buy a PC that will allow me to play all PC games with no compromise... This must be one hell of a laptop...
not to mention it must output 5.1 (minimum) sound... somehow... last edited by Any at 14:06:12 08/Jan/10 |

Looks nice, I have always wanted a good gaming laptop but could never really find one. But I don't go to much places were I would want a laptop like this. So I will just stick to my PC, otherwise It would be like having 2 computers but only using 1, not really getting my money's worth. |

11"... That already makes the keyboard too small for me to game with without mashing 3 keys at once... Are there specs anywhere, or is that information not released yet? |

I think it's just a grammar failure trog, as in:
- You can play your games and media while away or at home; and - You can play your media at 720p |

Maybe the screen supports 720p?
I went down the laptop gaming route before I built my current computer. It's ok if you live in a cold climate - but here in brisbane those tiny laptop fans just cannot move enough air to keep the laptop cool. My HP used to get to hot and speedstep (I think thats the term) down to half speed... right in the middle of a game. Took me ages to figure out why my games all of sudden ran like crud!! |

I have an m1530 XPS and it is pretty fail for gaming. I drags pretty hard even on games like CS:Source and Company Of Heroes.
Saying that, its not really a 'gaming' laptop. It is not exactly a work computer either. I still get plenty of use from it as a media pc Media Centre + TV card ftw :) I prefer my fairly old desktop (5 years old) for games. Even though the laptop is newer. last edited by ctd at 14:48:22 08/Jan/10 |

I have a Dell 1550 customised and that can play Modern Warfare 2 very nicely on high on 1366x768, it plays CS:Source quite fine as well. This laptop plays most games really nicely but i have to admit I can't stand laptops for gaming though dunno why, maybe its the smaller screen or keyboards just too small and fiddly. When ever i get a new laptop i try out the games on it to see how well they perform then i never play em again. The reality is laptops underclock when running on batteries and even if they didnt they would go flat so quick its not worth spending all this money for a mobile gaming solution when really you cant even use it for gaming whilst mobile. A laptop with a large screen is cumbersome. I'm not sure about the rest of you but i never have the time to play games whilst mobile anyway. |

i wouldn't mind having some just as a second PC to sit there while i'm doing stuff on my other comp - as well as the option of doing non related gaming things while mobile
while in officeworks the other day i scanned some and was amazed how cheap they are these days after not looking at them for about 5 years |

Using "720p" or "1080p" in PC specs is a way to con those silly console players into converting.. OMG MANZ IT DOES 1080PEE when in fact all of us know we've been playing in higher resolutions since trog was playing games back before dinosaurs.
The one liner that annoys me is "The Alienware M11x demonstrates the graphics power of a 15-inch laptop in an 11-inch form factor" - WTF?! just because a screen is bigger doesn't mean its more powerful.. |

^ maybe it means it can play/process higher resolutions on a smaller screen? but i'm not sure. |

Have one of these for carting around to mates places to play some games, absolutely dominates everything for the price.

Displaying something in 1024x768 at 5" or 5000000000000000000000000" should make no difference to the processing required by the GPU. It's just outputting at 1024x768 no matter what it's connected to.

The one liner that annoys me is "The Alienware M11x demonstrates the graphics power of a 15-inch laptop in an 11-inch form factor" - WTF?! just because a screen is bigger doesn't mean its more powerful.. Key terms: "11-inch form factor" When you shrink laptop dimensions/volume by switching to a smaller form factor, you generally have to seek smaller and less powerful hardware to fit it. Not to mention having a smaller battery would make you NOT want to have powerful hardware in there to suck up all the limited juice. So having similar performance to a larger laptop is good, but then again it's sort of inevitable with each generation of hardware. I guess the question is battery life? Not that this laptop interests me. Not sure why I would want to watch semi-HD material on such a small screen. Maybe if I hook up a big, high-res monitor via HDMI it might be interesting. But if I have a fixed monitor lying around, might as well have a fixed PC there as well instead of a laptop? last edited by parabol at 17:32:03 12/Feb/10 |

Is inevitable, not sort of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moore's_law Seriously not sure why they aren't running clarksfield though? I dunno, a 1.3ghz cpu doesn't seem like gaming rig quality. Guessing its cause of size, but still. |

sounds very underwhelming.. thought Dell would have the market know how to produce something that would grab the attention of gamers...
