So this is by no means new

When i was little i remember heading up the coast with the family and going over the pine river bridge and seeing the sunken barge, on your left as you're heading north.

Now i never managed to catch the full story about it (20 years on). Does anyone know what happened? Why it's still there?

You can still see the tip of it, however it is much much smaller (read: more sunken) than it ever has been.

yeah i remember this. it used to be a barge carrying goods n' s***. then it sprung a leak and sunk.

when you say pine river, which one do you mean?

the one that goes under the pine river bridge at bald hills/murrumba downs/castle hill

and does anyone know perhaps what year? 1989?

is that the main bridge that goes up the highway heading north from gympie road?

Yep. After you come off the Gateway, and before Dohles Rocks Road. Pine River is what it's called after South Pine River joins North Pine River.

So on you see it on your left heading outbound? Will have a gander tomorrow on my way home.
