I've decided a day at the beach is in order, usually always go to Burleigh or anywhere along the gold coast or further south really. Haven't been to nortcoast beach more than a couple of times. What's a decent beach with a fair amount of surf but just for a swim?

I would recommend a beach at cooloola national park, near the sand patch, but I do believe about 100 km in either direction has been completely destroyed by bush fire a couple weeks ago.

The further north you go the quieter more relaxing it is, I live Burrum heads and walk across the road to get to the beach, crystal clear water, island off the coast so its sheltered, w00t. Avoid Caloundra, everywhere else is fantastic.

Kings beach is rad, but the surf is pretty varied. Some days it's prime, other days it's weak.
Does Kings Beach still have those big patches of red sea weed? I used to hate getting dumped in a patch of that stuff as a kid... was scary at the and was itchy like a mofo. |

too late now but this is a helpful tool. it saves me driving 5 minutes if it looks too crowded or s*** surf. swimming beaches with decent surf i reckon are kings (if its windy its a great spot cause its sheltered.), mooloolabah (good anytime and best on the eyes if its a dud day), coolum (rarely go wrong). the further you head up the quieter it is as already mentioned. just the poor suckers that have to drive down the bruce of an afternoon to get home. that can get ugly. |

Kings beach is rad, but the surf is pretty varied. Some days it's prime, other days it's weak. its usually fine when i go down there. high tide is the winner if you want the cleanest water. i used to live a couple of minutes from kings and in the 18 months there was only the odd day or two where seaweed was an issue. rarely go down there now cause i am 5 mins from mooloolaba/alex. |

Sunshine Beach Or Marcus Beach are very pretty indeed. Surfs usually good, all the way down to the Inlet.

I was in the surf at king's beach today, but got chased out by the storm when the lightning started hitting close by. The place is real nice if you don't mind all the people and you just want to relax/swim.
Also plenty of stores and cafes near by, BBQs and park. Plenty of attractions for families. |

We have a beach house up on sunshine beach and it is the place to be. Nice and small and not many people around. Or any of the beaches around there, marcus, perigian, etc

i do most of my surfing at dickie beach & if it's too choppy/rough there i go to mooloolabah n it it's still too choppy then i go to noosa heads. i tend to start at caloundra coz my bro lives there & i can leave my bike gear at his house & walk to dickies.
the sunshine coast beaches have all deteriorated over the years though! all of them have lost so much sand. :( |
