Why do people in australia celebrate something that has nothing to with us at all. It's an american tradition why start it here.

your thoughts?

Yeah... I heard them damned Yanks also eat 3 meals a day, drink, breathe, blink and use the internet too...

I guess you'd better stop that if you don't want to do what them yanks do...

Seriously, it's an excuse for people to have some fun. Lighten up a little. Does it really matter if some people take part in it? Nobody's forcing you to... Get over yourself, you bigot.

Meh, it's an excuse to dress up, drink and have fun. I'm in. I'm going to make an appearance at a couple of parties, maybe head out. Luckily earlier this year I bought some top-quality fake vampire fangs.

Hi. I've never experienced a proper event known as Halloween, but can't seem to ignore my indifference in a country that has already begun to embrace its harmless fun. I thought I'd create a new thread on QGL to share my indifference instead of using the Search function.

your thoughts?

Yeah, us Americans exploit everything! Just look at Santa Claus, today's Santa is based on the Coca-Cola image.

Now if we could just get Australia to celebrate Thanksgiving (last Thursday of November) the assimilation would be complete!

OK, I'm a bit displaced, an American who's been living in Australia for over 10years. And I've seen the how Halloween has grown here in just that short amount of time, and prior to coming to Oz I saw how the same holiday in the US has shifted in the way it happens. When I was a kid growing up we went door-to-door "Trick-or-Treating" unfortunately it can't happen like that over there any more, too many incidents where kids were getting poisoned or hurt on the "treats" they received. Now kids only go to places the parents trust, either friends or relatives, or if that fails, the shopping malls. The mall trips have grown almost to a point now where I've heard that some centre's have a "cover charge" just to get in.

Another tradition that's grown due to not being able to trick-or-treat is Halloween parties, basically good fun for kids and adults alike.

Actually, back in 2000 a man was charged for sticking needles in Snickers bars he gave out to kids on Halloween. But for the most part it's a very rare occurance, less than 10 confirmed incidents in 50 years.

And you can't read. No where did I say that Coke "invented" Santa, I said today's Santa is based on Cokes stylised image: http://www.thecoca-colacompany.com/heritage/cokelore_santa.html

And where in my post did I say that someone died? Sure a lot of it's scare mongering, mainly caused by the big corporations to market their "safe" products. However I do remember growing up in the 80's and the scare, I also remember that I knew someone, who knew someone else that had found a razor blade in their apple.

And you don't understand sarcasm either.

Man. You would not believe what just happened to me.

Some people came trick or treating to my house. There were three of them - two kids and an older sister. Being the silly old person I am I didn't have any treats so I said trick. So the kids started spraying me with silly string. I laughed like a bastard and said, "you got me good." They laughed like sons of bitches and walked off. It was only about 30 minutes later when I heard a knock on the door again and thought there were more kids looking for treats, but I was wrong. When I opened the door I saw the older sister of the the two kids who where here earlier. Puzzled, I asked her what was wrong and she said I hadn't given her her treat.

Well, you could only imagine what was going thru my head. What is this crazy girl on about? Well, apparently I had been naughty and needed a good rodgering! So I invited her in and she clawed at my clothes like a wild panther, hardly giving me time to close the door. "You've been a bad boy haven't you?", she growled, before taking out my giant member and sticking it in her hungry hole. All I could think of was, "I couldn't believe the bartender when he told me who you were. Your father was Captain of a starship for fourteen minutes and he saved 800 lives." I had just finished watching Star Trek where Capt. Pike first spoke to the young Kirk.

"Harder", she yelled. I was thinking to myself if I give her anymore the whole thing will blow. I was about to shoot my load inside her hot soaking wet canal when she said, "eat me you filthy f***". I'm not sure if you've ever gone down on a chick but it's way different if you've f***ed her then decided to go down on her. It tastes weird. So at that point I was like, "f*** you bitch!". And I kicked her the hell outta my house and said don't come back.

f*** I hate Halloween.

Hahah Phooks, nice one

Yeah, tbh I don't get it - suddenly it just seemed to become popular for no reason. But then again, tens of thousands of people loved the Back Street Boys, so I am used to not understanding certain things...

Either way, had some lollies in my house (or should I say, 'candy') - but then had a wedding to go to so wasn't home anyway! Knock all you want, kiddies, noone's answering this door!

Wow, Halloween in the states is insane. I went over to a mates place who lives in a classic Desperate Housewives neighourhood. The whole street was mobbed with kids, I think they even bussed some of them in.

Highlight was some dude in a lame costume running up to the house grabbing a handful of candy and then run back to his car and drive off.

Between insane decorations and ridiculous amounts of [not cheap] candy, I reckon some of his neighbours would have easily spent $5k+ on the night. CRAZY!

I'll say I had a kid rock up yesterday not in dress or anything and said to the wife "money or food". WTF! She ended up giving them some LCMs and sent him on their way.

Few minutes later there was another knock on the door.. the kid had smelt blood and had brought back reinforcements!

"Happy Halloween!!"
*Looks at watch* "Sorry kids halloween was last night" *Closes door*
