On AusGamers all threads also go into the General Chat forum http://www.ausgamers.com/forums/general/index.php which is essentially the same as the QGL list. The categories are more just for filtering at this point in time.

Anyhow. Welcome to the forums and thanks for sharing.

sorta funny, as games get more complicated visually, videos like that are almost impossible to watch on youtube - you just don't get the resolution you need to really see what is going on.

And yeh, its depressing watching FPS gamers on consoles moving like they're in slow motion :( its a pretty cool vid tho

Are you saying, if both console player and pc player played against each other on pc? Or both the console player and the pc player play each other on console.

I think the gist of his point was that if you are playing FPS on a console, you are a moron and therefore must be s*** at PC.

if you interest in full video replays with commentary Gamestah (thx trog) are doing a dozen or so a week, most are live - so the quality is not perfect but certainly watchable.

as for the horrible commentary comment, well we all got to start somewhere... its certainly not as easy as people like to think, all are welcome to give it a crack!

Quite true. Although I have to say for myself FPS's are much easier to control on a PC than a console, I just can't do it on a console to save my life.

cod5 was frustrating, couldn't get into it as much as i did/do halo3. still was a MUCH better online game than gears2. god that was horrible to play online.

and alot of the maps in cod5 were horrible too.

cod6 looks good though.

Geez Giri, I'm so impressed at the detail and varity in the COD WOW maps. What didnt you like about the maps? Also, did you play piro all the time? ;p

haha, i've had to stop playing pyro in tf2, been playing soldier alot more. A class that would be useful in clan games :p (pyro is about 20x more fun though).

the variety is there in the maps, nothing against that, i just think they're pretty poorly designed. Most have no natural flow to them, there were alot of very campy areas right ontop of respawns, i can't nail down the reason why now, i'ts been too long since i played it, but i do remember thinking back and thinking how poor alot of the maps were. Not all, some are really decent.

giririssss, you're always gonna get s*** maps no matter which game you play. I actually believe COD5 has some of the best maps around. Sub Pens, Makin Day, Banzai, Outskirts all incorporate some very different and well laid out ways to have a fair game for both sides, no stupid camping points and fun for all i reckon.

That's great if you're trying to chill with a game and just trying to have fun, but FPS games aren't about that to me, especially multiplayer ones.

They're about beating other people who are really good at the game. That's not something I can do kicking back on the couch; I can only bring my A game if I'm at a PC, inches from the monitor, wired in my chair on a mouse !@#

Sounds pretty serious, trog.

I like consoles for the social aspect, chilling out with mates on a couch. But for online multi-player, consoles can go get f***ed. And anyway, isn't the reason for having a TV so you can say to your missus, "Hey your fave show is on!" so you can get some one-on-one time with the computer? :-P

When I cut across from PC FPS to console FPS, after I adjusted to using the control pad I found it was just the same.

Although I've never been leet at the PC or console FPS...

I reckon if COD5 multiplayer, was cross platform you wouldn't be able to tell pc and console players apart.

You'd be surprised how good their aim is in general, alot of the guys who do play proffesionaly with halo use a really high in game sens, with the stick being analogue they can move it quite accurately to where ever they want as fast/slow as they want.

I'm not saying i can, i'm f***ing s*** compared to them, but to rule it out shows ignorance.

I still think that mouse/keyboard is a much better controll mechanism too, for the record. But some people just get freaky good at this stuff.

The thing is though, console games are made so that it's easier to aim on the conslols anyway. try playing the pc version with a controller, it'd be heaps harder.

It sure is nice gaming on a 42" Full HD TV with my one controller w/headset connected compared to sitting at a desk in front of ,maybe, a 24" monitor where i have to use a keyboard AND a mouse along with third party applications to chat and have accounts for games which I pay on a game to game basis.

Nice to have a once of payment of $70 for a years worth of ANY GAME I WANT !!!

Well you can feel safe in this claim; your bravado will almost certainly never be tested.

It's pretty likely noone will ever make a multiplayer game than can talk across platforms like this, mostly for technical reasons - unless MS decide to make Live for Windows not suck and people start using it for dedicated servers and they design it in such a way that they can talk to the console clients as well.

I think it's unlikely though - the average PC gamer will s*** on a console gamer. I don't think this is a reflection on skill, it's just a simple limitation in the control method of console-based FPS games. You can't turn as fast, you can't aim as well, you don't have all the key options you do on a keyboard. That's not even thinking about hardware issues (PC gamers will be always able to keep upgrading and play the game in higher resolutions and at better framerates, resulting in a better play experience; I don't think anyone would argue that a more fluid framerate at higher resolutions is more conducive to better gaming (although I guess there's a point that it's unable to be differentiated).

Hmmm mlgpro.com. So actually we have some of the highest paid competitive gamers in the world.

It is in its infancy! One thing it does have for it that PC gaming didn't have is MS with a (literally) US$1bn marketing budget. Give me $1bn and I'll turn PC gaming into something neat too.

I dunno if it's just me but that mlgpro website takes forf***ingever to load so I couldn't even check it out.

Xbox 360 "pro gaming" has a pretty good chance of surviving for a while, because your next hardware refresh won't be until like 2012. In 2012 PC gamers will be lightyears ahead so it'll be a totally different market - it's good in terms of technology, etc, but it's bad because that rapid evolution means there's little incentive to stay playing the same old crusty games (exception: Counter-Strike, which I fully anticipate will still be getting played).

I don't get why people think this? You can hook up a PC to your 52" LCD whateva in living room and play sports/racing games from the comfort of your lounge with smoother and better graphics.. Is it the effort of hooking up a pc to tv in living room why sport/racing games is deemed less fun than consoles? My cousin lent me GRID for PS3, I played it for 5 min and turned the s*** off.. Wen't back to playing GRID on PC with far better graphics.

The latest racing wheel G27 is compatible with PS3 and PC..

I know this thread is old, but I didn't see this comment from Trog. Cross-platform FPS was done a few years back with Shadowrun on 360 and Windows. It was tested, and the console player got destroyed.

the only thing i think consoles have in their favour is levelling the playing field with online pub play.

if you are all playing on the same machine its only a few minor settings that can be adjusted.
PC pub games will always have that element of better pc better chance of winning.

keyboard mouse will always be better for fps.

Cross-platform FPS was done a few years back with Shadowrun on 360 and Windows. It was tested, and the console player got destroyed.

So badly that the Shadowrun developers had to put in artificial slow downs to the mouse turning and whatnot.

From wiki:

Because of the lack of 'pixel-accuracy' with the Xbox 360 analog thumbstick, the designers have included an aim-assisting technology, which basically interpolates the player's movement and causes the reticle to stay over an enemy player like a weak magnet. In addition, FASA has implemented a feature which causes the cross-hair to expand during quick movements, thus lowering the player's accuracy, making it impossible to quickly turn and maintain accuracy, reducing the potential advantage of playing with a mouse.[6][7] PC players, who have a more sensitive control scheme, are able to turn significantly faster than their controller-using counterparts and would have gained an unfair advantage.

So Consolers got aimbot and PC uses got nerfed haha.

Martz you answered your own question.

I couldn't be bothered hooking my computer up to the TV. they're in different areas of the house, I probably have the cabling for it but no idea where they are. no idea what resolution to set so its clear on the tv.

also: local multiplayer. its just so much easier on a console.

On the "FPS on conslol" issue - I think it's much harder to adapt between games. It's pretty easy to go from one FPS to another on PC, and you can adapt with the mouse. On conslol I find it much harder though.
