So, I've quit WoW and am now looking for a decent RTS that I can play with my girlfriend. Ideally would like co-op against the computer, LAN plan and some form of battle.net or similar internet play.
Any suggestions? |

heh... nah, I'm good. I've been weening myself off WoW since the last xpac. Just doesn't do it for me any more. It's now more World of Casualcraft and that kinda bugs me.
I'll look into CoH. Played DoW2, I'm not a huge fan of squad based games like that... I played Dune II back in the day, and all through the Warcraft series and C&C etc... Looking for something in that style (oh yeah, that supports 1680x1050 :P) |

Hah, I was going to suggest Dune2 before I went for Warcraft 3. Starcraft 2 needs to come out already :(

Company of Heroes!
I've got a heap of rts games but they never seem to hold my interest and I usually go back to a FPS - However Company of Heroes has kept me addicted for ages :) Can pick it up dirt cheap on ebay with opposing fronts. |

Another vote for CoH. I got it off steam with the expansion for a reasonable price.
Dawn of War 2 is quite different. I would recommend checking the demo first, as the play style might not suit some people. |

http://springrts.com/wiki/About
Spring is a project aiming to create a new and versatile RTS Engine. It features: Large battles limited only by the power of your computer; support for up to 10000 units and up to 250 players. Hundreds of large and highly detailed maps in which to wage those battles, fully 3D with deformable terrain, forest fires, dynamic and reflective bump mapped water, and custom skyboxes. Fully 3D combat in land, sea, and air, with realistic weapon trajectories (physics engine). Many different Games, made just for Spring. A full featured lobby client to easily play multiplayer games with hundreds of players just waiting for you at any time. Including automatic game and map downloading, chat, friends list etc A lot of third party widgets to improve the gui, the gameplay and the visual. Complex 3rd party AIs (Bots) that can work very competently in many cases with multiple Spring engine games and mods. A powerful GUI designed to minimize unnecessary micromanagement that is easily extensible via a Lua API. Frequent engine additions and bugfixes. Several camera modes, allowing for anything to be viewed from almost any angle. http://linux.softpedia.com/screenshots/TA-Spring_1.jpg |

that's because it's the old total annhilation engine which was an awesome game
only thing i don't like about that TA springs is the amount of units and builds is just ridiculous |

I played my first coh multiplayer game last night - me and some random vs 2 computer ai players - and we won - love that english arty!
(I'm a noob at coh - go easy!) Then proceeded to play 2 german lvl 7 players vs myself (lvl 1) and another lvl 7 and got owned :( Gotta start reading up on some tactics I think - the relic forums have been a good start. Also I f***ing hate pioneers(german base unit?) with flamethrowers If you want to play a game add me - nick is 59fifty |

I'm aware of this, but you generally don't post a picture that big unless you're trying to say how cool it looks. Yeah well it's pretty ugly in comparison to other RTS games out there but considering this ones free and offers a great deal of strategy and tactics I just couldn't help but shamelessly promote it. |
