I'm not really into conventions, never been to one, apart from like a boat show or something. But I have a friend who works at these events, and this one looks like it might be interesting for gamers.

Some stargate and BSG actors will be guests.

It's only $20 to get in too, not like most conventions where it's your week's wages.

Might be an alright event to get my toes wet in the whole convention thing.

If by gamer you're talking about Electronic Gaming then last year it was a poor showing. This year should hopefully be more different if they get their act together. But if you mean a more general gamer then its worth a gander.

I managed to score a free ticket last year (ta jadz0r) and went along to have a peek, I enjoyed it and managed to not blow my budget on the board and card games (Munchkin is awesome sauce btw and great fun to take camping). Unfortunately I went on the last day so I missed a lot of the tabletop gaming.

Yeah, a guy at work is flying up from melbourne to be one of the guest DM's running Dungeons and Dragons games for the weekend. Basically, Gencon is paying to fly him up, paying for his accomodation for the thursday/friday/saturday/sunday, free entry to the conference etc, and in return he has to run something like 8 d&d games over 3 days. Not a bad trade off really.

table top games? dungeons and dragons? cards? I think I have completely misunderestimated this event.

No wonder it's only 20 bucks.

LanSmash is embedded into the event.

I'm in two minds. I don't wanna miss the lan, but I CBF trying to get my whole PC to Southbank (bs parking/transporting equipment/etc).

I'm thinking this LS will be full of laptop users :/

*edit*

not to dis LS though... it's the best thing since Qgl lan
