Haven't seen any rumored cuts yet for Australia, hopefully the elite gets a similar hit here - it's still $549 ffs.

I wouldn't expect anything here on Friday though, usually takes a bit longer for price drops to filter down here.

Elites are way too expensive given that even the arcade version these days come with HDMI. Talk about a kick in the teeth for those that bought a console at launch.

meh I just upgraded my pro's 20gig to 120gig for $60.

seriously, who doesn't have one by now?
they're OLD tech, there's gotta be a new console around the corner and people still care about price cuts on what should be EOL hardware?

Not really, I am not kicking myself that I didn't wait 2 years to buy a console so I could save a couple hundred dollars. If anything, I would prefer to buy at launch to get as much use out of it as possible.

Don't hold your breath. This current cycle is expected to last longer than all before it. From memory analysts are pegging at least 2013 for next iterations but it could be longer than that.

Wow I didn't think it was such a short time frame between console generations. I must have always gotten the consoles late into their life and continued playing them even after the new ones came out.

nintendo > super nintendo > n64 > gamecube > wii
1987 > 1992 > 1997 > 2002 > 2006
0 > 5 > 5 > 5 > 4~

I fairly sure i heard on Good Game that x-Box price would not be dropped in Australia.

I like Good Game. Usually watch the Friday Night version.

Ya $60, but it's not brand new. Private sale on the boostcruising forum.

Dude wanted it for a 100 initially but i showed him three 20's and he buckled at the knees.

I then celebrated my successful business transaction by lighting up the remaining $20 right in front of him and smoked it.

Hmmm i hear contrary to dan, I was hearing a 2011 release for the next gen cycle of consoles. But that would still make this the longest generation for a long time. the 360 came out before wow.

I think with sonys considerable money worries, that they aren't in a rush to launch a new console (at loss making prices) any time soon. And MS are enjoying market dominence over them so they're in no rush either. And, well, the Wii still tops the charts in sales world wide so nintendo are in no rush either.

5 years is pretty typical, but I agree with Dan. For the next generation to start, one of the company's I think needs to definitely feel like its "lost" and that a new machine is the only way to improve their position in the market (observe that each new generation is usually not started by the company who was "winning")

It seems unlikely that either Microsoft or Sony feel like they are out of options yet.

2012 is the release for the next Microsoft console. They are spending the next couple of year bedding in Natal.

Why bother when you're not particularly limited by hardware?

i read somewhere once that they (microsoft, nintendo etc.) werent looking at releasing a new console for a while, and were concentrating on the streaming online side of things.

i would love 360's to be around $350 mark for xmas....

Microsoft said a few months ago that the 360 is only about half way through its intended life-cycle, so it's not going away any time soon.
