You'd be very lucky to get half the original purchase price 10 months on dude. I personally reckon its worth about a grand maybe, 1,200 tops?

Yeh, you can pick em up Buy it Now on ebay for $1,075 AUD.

You will never, ever get anything close to your money back on the spec-up. Depreciation on hardware is insane.

Like I said, you might get 1400 for it, but anything more than that is just not reasonable, and you'd be looking at a few hundred less for a quick sale.

Sorry to punch you in the wallet if you were thinking you might get about 2 grand, its really unlikely to happen matey.

What?

It has a 400mhz slower CPU, twice the HDD size. Plus I'm buying it from ebay, not some shady online deal. How do I know your laptop isn't stolen?

What's the point in an SSD drive in a laptop anyway?

Ok, obviously speed and maybe power use (I dunno, do they use less power?) are advantages but 128gb is pretty damn small these days and to add extra space it means external drives which then makes a laptop not so portable.....

Yes, SSD use less power and yes, drive size is crippling bang for buck with SSD

Hope you get at least a little bit close to what your asking/hoping for.

mission, they are faster, lighter and more power efficient. It really depends on what you use your laptop for. I dont have one in my macbook because I like to keep all my photos and music synced with my NAS at home and there is about 12,000 photos and a bunch of music.

Huh? Its the same f***ing model, so the comparison isn't invalid. Its (deliberately) the baseline 2nd hand cost for an M1530. What is in dispute is the value of the expensive up-spec that the OP paid for.

s*** like the RAM diffrerence isn't worth worrying about, RAM is easily upgraded in a Dell and f***ing cheap. If 2GB doesn't do the job then its a 50 dollar exercise to improve and my wife could do the installation.

The accessories don't matter at all, they're near-worthless individually, and count as a sweetener only.

Does the Dell warranty carry over to the new party? I don't f***ing think so!
14.1 The Customer shall not assign or otherwise transfer any Contracts or any of its rights and obligations hereunder whether in whole or in part without the prior written consent of Dell. Any such unauthorized assignment shall be deemed null and void.

Dell's Online Policies

The only real difference is the screen resolution, SSD and the mild CPU diff. There is no way that the unit is worth more than 14-1500 dorras, certainly nowhere near 2k!

You can transfer warrenty and it does work.

Hmm that's interesting - seems to be contrary to their terms and conditions! Surprised they didn't link to the facility..

I'll cede the warranty point, although it still doesn't make the unit worth 2 grand :)

Better to get SSD in a laptop for longer batterylife plus quicker boot times (less wasted time, boot time is one of the least power efficient things a PC can do).

Better to do that and get an external $100 500gb drive running via usb for your other less latency sensitive crap (eg videos pictures etc).

No doubt.

Still, when I look at what you can get brand new in a Studio 16 for $1,850 it just reinforces why this can't be worth more than 14-1500 dollars IMO.

IE:

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53GHz/ 1066 FSB/ 3MB Cache)
Genuine Windows Vista(R) Home Premium SP1 64 bit Edition (English) (probably includes eligibility for 7 upgrade?)
2Yr Extension of Dell OnCall help
4GB (2 X 2GB) Dual Channel 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
Slot Load 8X DVD + /-RW Drive with double layer write capability
Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 (802.11a/g/n) Half Mini-card
Dell(TM) Wireless 370 Bluetooth Module
1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670
6-Cell (56WHr) Li-Ion Primary Battery
Gigabit Ethernet (massive oversightin the M1530s IMO)

Note that the batteries only varry a one year warranty, so the battery in the 2nd hand ism't likely to be covered.

Even considering the SSD (and 250 for 128GB), I would probably take the above shiny new studio over the 2nd hand M1530.

so you have slowly conceded its worth closer to 1400 then your initial s*** offer of 700....

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9550(2.66GH, 6MB Cache, 1066 MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows Vista(R) Ultimate SP1 64 bit Edition (English)
2Yr Extension of Dell OnCall help
Microsoft(R) Works 9.0 (Does Not Include Microsoft(R) Office 2003/2007 Software)
4GB (2 X 2GB) Dual Channel 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM

Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 (802.11a/g/n) Half Mini-card
Dell(TM) Wireless 370 Bluetooth Module
Obsidian Black 15.6 " 1080p WUXGA (1920x1080) WLED Full HD Display w/ 2MP cam

The New Studio XPS version of that laptop with .2 bigger screen, better res and faster video card. But the closest your gonna get to that M1530...

drum roll please........

$2,925.49

Thats with the $100 cash back promotion

Now price it without the SSD and Ram because its cheaper to buy those yourself by at least $500, and reduce the screen, the CPU is a higher spec, it has a backlit keyboard, newer GPU and better chipset.

It also has an N wireless card and gigabit lan so your point there is completly 100% f***ing stupid.

Its worth probably around $1200, but in saying that, second hand goods are worth as much as people are willing too pay for them.

end of story.

My initial s*** offer? You're obviously confused. Maybe read who has posted what before you make smartarse remarks?

My first estimate was ~1200, mostly as I hadn't noted the SSD in the spec list. Within a post I had upped the max to 14-1500. I still think that is really the top dollar you can ask for a 10-month old M1530 unless someone really values SSD over a 7200 drive.

Interestingly that's about 30-40% over the 2nd hand base price which seems appropriate, since that's about how much extra he would have paid for the upgrades. Computers just do not hold value, expect to lose half your original price about 12 months easily.

I agree entirely with your last point. I think he put it on here seeing if anyone wanted to buy it at a reasonable price.

700 - 900 as offers are a joke, worth a pitch in case jimbo is after a quick sale but not worth an argument to try and justify their s*** offer. Its obviously worth more and jimbo is obviously not going to let it go for less than a reasonable price so how about if someone is interested in it for a reasonable price they offer it and stop squabbling over minor details. If no price can be made that jimbo thinks is reasonable then it obviously doesnt get sold.

end of story.

Okay, first up, they arnt a joke, they are a starting point, second of all, they arnt a joke, because they arnt that far off what his f***ing laptop is worth!

Dont get all f***ing defensive because your friend is teary that his way over priced laptop gets some f***ing comments over it.

Boo hoo, its not worth anywhere near what it was 10 months ago, hardware never is.

Also take note that you are one of very very few in this thread who think its worth close too 2k.

I was actually trolling... asif I would buy a second hand Dell. Way to overpay f*****.

I wouldn't pay a cent more than 1200 for that now. If the thread starter thinks he can get more - good luck to him... He wont.

Yes, and after 12 months, that will be worth about $1500

Hardware halves in price after it's been in use for 12months. That's why you can write about 40 - 50% off of it as depreciation for tax purposes.

like it or not it's fairly true. The same way a car loses 30% of its value the second it leaves the dealership.

Since the materials used in a lot of electronic goods have a high chance of deteriorating after a year or so, to me the product loses a lot more than 50% in one year - it loses peace of mind or something.

I don't know if laptops depreciate as fast as some people are saying in this thread too btw; they're a bit less like regular PCs. that's still a f***ing good laptop so I think < $1000 would be too little for it.

FTR I have a 2 year old Dell M1210 and it is far and away the best computer thing I've ever owned. I'm still running the default install that came with it (haha I didn't even blow away the default s***ty OS) and aside from one instance of painful bluescreen problems (which was the result of some stupid iTunes/iPod s***, IIRC) it has been solid as iraq. My next lappy will definitely be an XPS series Dell, assuming this one ever stops working.

Under 1k is, but you would be surprised at how fast laptops drop in price. Although Apple holds it's value a little better ;)

I have an XPS Studio 13 which is one of the newer ones and compared too the 1530 and the 1330 the build quality feels cheap and Im having all sorts of driver issues :( Such a shame.
