Looks damn cool. Only thing I hated about that trailer was the lame music and you didn't get to hear all the s*** going on.

Also, they should do the WoW movie with those visuals.

I was hoping they'd release the trailer in 3D, not that I have a 120Hz monitor or anything, but I could have bugged vic to bring his into the office. Maybe they still will.

So many Avatar fanboys having a cry over at IMDB because James Cameron promised them photo realistic visuals and it looks more animated.

LOL

Seems Apple must have made it so you can't save trailers anymore (probably because movie studios got pissed). Which would be stupid, trailers are just ads and if people want to download them you're retarded for stopping them.

Mantarok: Yeah, they've supposedly made the changes because of the popularity of the Avatar trailer here's the deal: http://www.hd-trailers.net/blog/2009/08/20/direct-download-links-from-apple-are-not-working/

Should just be able to spoof the user-agent in your download manager of choice.

At first thought it seems ridiculous. Why would they want to stop people freely promoting their movie. But on second thought, it's probably more about quality control. Your average idiot uploading a vid to youtube could be using any s***ty source file, wheras the one in the FOX official channel is going to be the best they can offer.

Also they probably want the views/comments etc on their vid, rather than someone elses.

So the whole movie is CG like that final fantasy movie? Looked like a cross between jurassic park & lord of the rings.

I just got an email from my brother inlaw and it turns out he's been working on this film for the past 18months. He's a texture artist and has worked on a number of camerons films.

Living the dream of looooong hours at the moment :P

Anyway, thought I would bump this thread for a little info. I am in Wellington for a few days and managed to get an invite too a 20 min session of Avatar 3D.

Basically it was in the small cinema in Weta and was just a few clips for around 20 mins with the 3d glasses. I enjoyed the teaser and it had its great shots and its average shots. After watching 20 mins in 3d, I cannot wait for this movie to be released. It was simply frigging amazing to watch. The 3D just changed the movie entirely and the CG was just simply spectacular.

It doesnt look like a video game, it surpasses that and honestly it is enjoyable enough that you just forget about that you ware watching a full CG film.

Sorry for the rambling, few beers in me now :)

Here is a couple of shots from the Weta Cave, which is their little display museum/shop
Unfortunatly I only had my little tiny crappy camera

Apparently the live action to CGI ratio is about 60:40.

So is it some new form of revolutionary new 3D? Or is it just the same 3D as movies that have been around for a while, but done really well?

Honestly, I have not seen 3d in a movie for years so its hard to comment. For me, instead of 1 item coming out at you, it gave the entire movie proper depth of field which really helped you feel like you were standing in the same room as someone.

I had never seen 3D like that but again, I have a very limited experiance with it.

Last time I watched a 3d movie was in expo 88, has there been much development since then?

Its probably polarised images. The left and right eye images are polarised perpendicularly by the projector (against a non-depolarising screen).

The glasses are polarised accordingly to only let one image into one eye. This means that you don't have any weird cyan and magenta glasses or other weird things which remove from the quality of the desired full colour image.
