eg. want sharepoint server = companyweb and www.domain.com.au to be different etc..

You will need to do some modification to sharepoint itself i you want it to listen on a different domain/port, just changing it in iis wont do anything/will break sharepoint. Look for extend web application.

Basically what you are after is called host headers, iis7 call its bindings.

6 is probably easier to learn. but 7 is nicer. when deploying sharepoint, itll ask what port anyway.

7 has a nicer interface, but after using 6 for so long I just can't find anything - every time I want to change a setting I have to bloody google it!

Yeah they moved everything from right click > properties > tabs, to icons with names that dont seem to match anything you had before, its the usual MS way of doing things.

Pretty much what they did with exchange 2003 to exchange 2007.

ok what i am trying to do..

Friend of Mine owns a SBS 2008 and haveing problems with IIS:
So if I go into IIS 7 and Edit binding for sharepoint
it has port 80 with no host name ip address *
and another one with port 80 with hostname companyweb, ip addresss *

which means they have 2 different sharepoint sites running... so i want to do is get rid of the companyweb sharepoint site (as they are not using this one)... but then change the one with no hostname to companyweb

the reason why i want to do this as when i try to start the "default Web site" it will not start as says it using the same port
