Post any new bands / songs you've stumbled across recently that you can recommend.

An iTunes shopping cart recommendation popped up the other day with OceanLab's album "Sirens of the Sea".

Out of the 13 tracks I really like 11, which is pretty good as far as albums go. It's chillout sessions style stuff - a bit of dance, a bit of trance (only slightly and no, I didn't intend for that to rhyme, lol).

Give it a listen on the iTunes store. Tracks "Sirens of the Sea", "Breaking Ties" and "Miracle" are some of the highlights.

Mos Def - Estatic
Didn't really stumble across it , might not be to most peoples tastes, but dude is a legend and the album just dropped.

If you're into some sweet chilled/progressive type house check out:

www.lukefair.com

He's DJ from Canada and has three full length downloads to check out.

Def worth the d/l.

No love from the tubes :(

Simian Mobile Disco - Audacity of Huge

heard it this arvo on the j's and loved it, which is strange cause i find most simian mobile disco stuff to be pretty meh.

edit: that above & beyond remix cd looks awesome - all those massive prog/trance producers remixing a&b should lead to all kinds of audio sexytimes

edit2: f*** yeah scuzzy, i picked up 'Crystal Method feat. Matisyahu - Drown in the Now' from beatport a few weeks ago, hows the rest of the album?

Rest of the album is pretty addictive, it’s a bit different with their guest singers, but I think it works well. Been listening to it pretty much exclusively whilst driving this week. Even went to a JB-Hifi to put it on order.

OK some of you may laugh at this as it's very commercial but I really enjoy Daniel Merriweather - Change. I don't know if this is an Australian Idol product or what, but if you didn't know the guy was white you could pretend he is Stevie Wonder.

If you like trying to discover new music, a trick I like doing is going to the ABC's rage web page on a Thursday night (or if your lame like me, on a Friday night), & just copy & pasting the "new releases:" songs from that end till 4:00am into Youtube

Sure you'll bound to come across utter crap, but you may just discover some gold like many Friday night rage video recordings have done for me in the past :)

Ospi, that porcupine tree album is PERFECTION!!

Did you see them live last year? They are the only band ever that sound exactly live as what they sound like on cd.. Perfect timing, vocals spot on.. just brilliant.

The Flow mix of Breaking Ties has been sitting in my beatport crate for ages, along with the Jaytech & James Grant mix which is also phat. Top tune!

Liking this at the moment (bought the EP yesterday):

Hah, it's OK if your ears can't make out the different sounds in there, it's not like I lose anything if you don't like it :) I guess it takes some people a while. I'll go out on a limb though and say that metal muso's are amongst the most talented of any genera.

Edit: PS they where pretty freaking awesome.

Double edit: Vocals can be an instrument too, language barriers don't stop people listening to music. In this example it's just played in a style you're not appreciative of :)

How about some Aussie "blackened death" metal or some err ... death 'n roll? heh

Not the newest thing, but I'm really digging on MSI at the moment after seeing them at Easter (I love their anti-emo attitude and general insanity):

If you're wondering, the song is called Mark David Chapman.

sorry about the bump, but it's such a good thread.

whilst some aren't "new" here are my recommendations:

* Fast life yungstaz - swag life surfin
* Grafton Primary - "I can cook" (miami horror remix)
* Basement Jaxx - Set your body free (crookers remix)
* Calvin Harris - Im not alone (deadmau5 remix)
* 009 Sound system - Dreamscape
* Richard Durand - Predator
* Coburn - We interrupt this program

- New Mastadon album is awesome! and the New Mos def album is also dope.

There was a band from Iran on the digg frontpage the other day called 'Hypernova'. I haven't been able to source any of their music, but I'd love to take more of a listen to them.

Hypernova Hypernova is an Iranian indie-rock band based in Tehran. The band is made up of Raam, Kami, Kodi, Jam and Poya. Raam is the lead vocalist, Kodi is the lead guitarist, Kami is the drummer, Jam plays bass and Poya plays the rhythm guitar/Synths.

I just checked out Hypernova. Pretty cool, they kinda remind me of the Killers or Franz Ferdinand.

I don't normally like white hip hop, but I think these guys have a kinda cool sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQhFRyfWZUA (they disabled embedding)

This guy Ronald Jenkees is also pretty rad:

His current album isn't that great, but the stuff he's working on for his next album sounds awesome.

My faves from Ronald Jenkees' current album are Clutter and Loui. I agree - all signs point to his second album is being a big improvement, if he ever releases the damn thing!
