No, but if the Aussie prices (for what they are) are anything to go off they're gonna be pricey.

Thats those ones you see constantly broken down on the side of the highway right?

the same ones that I used to see on the back of a tow truck once a week in their office at the valley?

those ones, good luck :)

had 2 awesome trips in wicked campers in Aus. they are pretty good price for something that you don't have to be careful with if you're doing a rough trip.

last July a mate and I did a trip from Cairns up to Cooktown going up the bloomfield track. Lots of fun and the 4wd camper handled it well.

This January we hired one from Alice Springs, drove to Uluru, then down the Stuart highway to port augusta sitting near 130 most the way... continued through adelaide, along the Great Ocean rd and handed it back in Melbourne.

The speedo (and odometer) sadly died somewhere after crossing the SA border [probably because I tried to make it fly by going really fast over a large invisible speedbump :) ] but the van itself handled the trip well.

There were f***loads of them on the great ocean road too. Lots of fun.

I guess they're OK for short holidays but people wanting to go on a multi month tour of a country you're better off buying a van/4x4 in the same condition heh.

6+ weeks in Europe, multiple countries. I got a quote for 40 quid a day, which I think is quite expensive considering they're buckets of s***. Still, very convenient as it will double as a bed if we don't get accom.

yeah i don't think i'd want to be in the middle of f***ing nowhere in a 20 year old van with very questionable service history and likely flogged by multiple drivers.

i would never go on a driving holiday with a car i didn't know like the back of my hand.

Just as an FYI Casa, wikced vans are one of the sponsors/partners with 'van tour' which is essentially a bunch of aussie and kiwi bogans driving around, thrashing the f*** outta the car, drinking like crazy f***ers and spewing everywhere.

I'd avoid them

You'd be better off hiring a little 4cyl car, long term rentals are cheap as f*** and depending on who you fly with you could be entitled to a discount. Fuel is pretty expensive over her (I don't own a car so don't pay too much attention, but it's around 1.20 euro's per liter in Dublin anyway). Get a relatively fuel efficient 'newish' car for cheaper and stay in B&B's or hostels if you want cheap accom.

I have met one of the directors of Wicked Campers in the UK and Ireland - dreadlocked Brissy guy. My girlfriend hired one with some of her gal pals and didn't seem to have any trouble. One of my mates has hired a couple of them in the UK as well and hasn't had any problems. Not sure on prices though, I think they both got preferential/mates rates.

However, if you are doing a big trip you could probably just buy one for a few hundred pounds and sell it at the end of it. It's the right season for it, and it's very popular to do that.

I saw a few of those wicked campers in europe.. mixed bag of reviews from the ppl i talked too, some were awesome condition others had a f***ed spare tyre that they only saw when they realised they had a flat...

Get a station wagon if its just a couple of people and hit up campsites if you're going around france and spain.. seriously very cheap awesome accommodation specially around places like the cote d azur / monaco etc, beachfront campsites, awesome Mediterranean weather etc (plus if you're stuck you could always sleep in the back at a truck stop or something..) I did about 4-5mths driving around the place in a Landrover and it was rad fun.. the alps are hilariously fun and beautiful to drive around in a 3tonne monster truck

Formule 1 are pretty cheap awesome accomodations (like 30euro a night and you can fit 4/5 ppl in a room!!!) they're usually in little blocks near freeways and shopping centres and the ramp up in price, say budget for 30euro then bit more upmarket with breakfast for like 50+

Also hot tip in france make sure you have enough reflective jackets in the car for all of your passengers or the police will fine you.. and have lights on when you go into tunnels.. (in austria have your lights on all the time) ermmm
