Anyone used compressed air in a can to clean a video card/?
Can you get a can of compressed air at Supa CheaP?

My 8800GTS died of overheating due to dust build up. I want to get a cheap Asus ENGTX280 off Ebay for $430 to SLI with my existing one but only if they don't die prematurely again.

Anyone used compressed air

Doesn't compressed air (from a can) contain liquid crap that can damage/stick to the PCB?

why dont you just take a s*** on the card instead

why don't you just bust out a vacuum cleaner and suck that s*** out?

i always disconnect the fan from the pcb first though. otherwise it becomes a little generator when it spins from the suction. once i damaged a card like that so i always disconnect it these days.

Because it's not air, but liquid butane, a hydrocarbon. It often has impurities that leave a residue.

Use an Air Compressor with at least 120lb of pressure to ensure you spin the fan up so fast, you blow the blades of the fans :)

Just remember to wear googles and or duck on 5 year old cards that have fans on them :p
I did that at home not so long ago and almost wore the fan blades in the face.

I have enough facial scars, if I had anymore it wouldn't leave any chicks for the rest of you :)

Also remember when you are spinning those fans with compressed air, the motors in them are generating a current. If you generate too much, you may damage your card.

Valid point in regards to some fans, which is why you always disconnect said devices before spinning up.

Edited for murder of english

I just use one of those brush things you use for basting chickens and roasts. The bristles are nice and flexible so you can get in hard to reach places without f***ing the card up.

Just wash it under a tap then dry it out in an air conditioned room.

I just blow into the card really hard... or take it to one of those card cleaners with the cafe and the topless chicks.

I got a lens cleaning brush that has fine hairs at one end and is shaped in the handle like a UFO saucer. you squeeze it and it blows out air as brush.

I just used an air compressor + squirty gun thingy with the air pressure regulator turned down a bit. My compressor has a water trap/filter so I'm not too bothered about s*** getting through.

I had fun making mine spin really really fast, computer still runs just fine.

I use a soft tooth brush or a small paint brush (very small) and a can of compressed air.
