It's late spring here (warmish, sunny etc), and today it dumped 20cm snow. Not happy jan. Because of this our staff party was canceled (it was outside). |

Rain is good until you need to actually do anything. QFT. Plus it's windy rain which is worse. I have to go to uni today and am going to get drenched. Plus I'm running out of clothes (haven't done any washing in a week because have been at uni working on assignments and my clothes shrink if they go in the dryer). The rain is TERRIBLE. It's supposed to ease up on Sunday (so 4 more days of it people). last edited by Agent 99 at 09:26:05 20/May/09 |

my cousin was doing 100km/h this morning down a hill, didn't see the puddle at the bottom, he told me the water stopped him within metres... 100km/h to 0km/h in a few meters, ouch! talk about whiplash... last edited by Martz at 12:26:10 20/May/09 |

Parents/family have lived in their home for 90+ years and have only seen it worse once in 1974. Water is coming up under their house like Oil. Ground is so wet the water table is lifting.

I wonder what would happen if the Dams were full ? I think storage capacity of the dams is only something like 50% of holding capacity. So even if the dams were at '100%' they could temporarily hold a lot more so the downstream flooding isn't so bad. Edit: Wivenhoe... Storage capacity for water supply (full supply level) is 1,165,000 megalitres, with a further capacity of 1,450,000 megalitres above full supply level (flood storage), for the temporary storage of flood waters. last edited by Chakas at 13:40:15 20/May/09 |

Sometimes its hard as hell to see the lanes or reflective markers, mostly at night, when its pissing down. Driving through city the other night was hectic, even the cabbie in front of me had to swerve back into the lane a few times.

This morning there was a car just sitting on the road (Waterworks Rd Red Hill) blocking traffic - no driver, lol they'd f***ed off somewhere after an accident. Miserable drive in to work.

Compared to driving in the rain at night when the reflectors are shiny and bright compared to the black around them |

You say this like cabbies are the epitome of professional drivers.Whilst a lot are pretty average drivers, there are a proportion of cabbies who actually are really good drivers, both safe and confident in their handling of their vehicle. |

I disagree, i think its way harder during the day when everything is the same grey colour as the sky is, with all the water just reflecting the sky and the reflectors have no contrast. Its driving through the city that is difficult because there's so many buildings and signage making the the road a mess of light and colours and from my personal experience the other night, it was very difficult to distinguish the lane markers from the reflections of the lights. The white lines on the road were even harder to see. |

You say this like cabbies are the epitome of professional drivers. Cabbie nearly took me out this morning. I turned right down a side street and he's stopped on the corner of said side street. As I get along side him he decides that would be the best time to do a U-turn without looking. I'm beside him so can't stop in time, weave into the lane going the opposite way (no cars thankfully) and he stops a couple of cm away from t-boning me. As it happened I thought for sure we would make contact because the roads were too wet for me to get out of the way. Somehow just managed to get out of that one though. |

Actually I almost had an incident in the car this morning.
I slowed down to make a right turn, and some a****** thought it would be great to overtake me on the wrong side of the road.. this means he was on my right as I was turning right. I really wish I'd smashed him so we could talk about his choices in life. |

Its driving through the city that is difficultFair enough I can totally understand the reflections on the road making it impossible to tell a lane marker to a reflection of the overhead bombardment of light. I was actually thinking from more the highway/suburbia perspective when i pitched in my thoughts :) |

So you made it through then? I floated down the Western earlier this arvo, everyone doing 40 otherthan trucks who assume they're glued to the road and still doing 80-100.

My office is right next to Enoggera Creek at Bowen Hills...had to evacuate. Ran out to the car and Lutwyche Rd was at a standstill as far as the eye could see because Bowen Bridge was underwater, so I merged over to the middle and did a U-turn and headed home northwards. From there traffic was almost non-existent, because no one could get out of the city!
In summary, flooding allowed me to go home early, and drive home way quicker than usual. Yay flooding! |

Bloody rail line was under water at ferny, on the bus past it has subsided but dumped all kinds of crap across there, will be fun tomorrow morning peak hour.
Also the roads behind the airport were a nightmare. |

Lemke Rd (why its a separate rd i dunno) is flooded so I had to go right aorund to sandgate rd.
Was planning to gym it up with a mate of mine but looks like i wont be able to go the normal route (through that rbh intersection)! XandraX was it totally packed south toward newmarket rd? |

The street that leads to mine is under water, I tried to get through it but it came up to the top of the front of my bonnet & my engine started squeeling like a stuck pig so I said f*** it. I just hope it doesn't rain too much more else the river is going to come up and say hello :(

I stayed at work till 6:30pm and got a clear run home, took less than 10 minutes - quicker than a normal day.
Tomorrow morning I will of course claim some sort of water issue and then leave for work around 10am and hope for the same :) |

every day is a holiday when you're in qld teacher's union :D You're clearly undeserving of any pay rise because it wouldn't be commensurate with your expertise, which is clearly absent. It's Teachers' Union fyi. |

Walked to uni at like 3 today and there was a bit of a river happening through the forest.
On my way back, the water was about an inch from the top of the concrete cylinder things but it was too dark to get a decent pic. http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd108/athzhir/Photo0109.jpg http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd108/athzhir/Photo0110.jpg http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd108/athzhir/Photo0111.jpg |

I'd like to see you infront of a classroom full of kids.. Don't misinterpret the point of my previous post Jake. I'm fully supportive of any and all industrial action taken by teachers, they deserve better pay for what they have to put up with. Believe me, I know...in a way. I'd just be nice if some teachers actually looked like teachers, even if it's only on an online forum that they don't. |

Walked to uni at like 3 today and there was a bit of a river happening through the forest. Going for a triple post. I walked on the other path (to the left, when facing the buildings, of that one) at about 3:20pm and the water was probably about 1m from cresting over the path. If the rain hadn't stopped it at that time, it was starting up again on my way back about 30 minutes later. I also tried to take a picture, but it was too dark. |

Took about an hour to travel down Moggill Rd at around 5pm. A friend of mine hopped out of my car, walked to HJ and finished up before my car even approached it. Could probably have walked the rest of the trip home quicker.
Also found about 8 leaks in the house. Had to evacuate my room .. real-estate agents don't seem to take the leaks seriously. Might have to make a breach-of-contract warning to get them to act, bastards. |

Pretty crazy up there. Just looked at trog's Google Map (link fail, btw) - here it is again Google Map of dramas in QLD Reminds me of when I was in Cairns, driving up to the Daintree in a hired Camry sedan, missus and I decided that we could cross a flooded road. Turns out, cars float if the door seals are good. Hahahaha. Turned into a boat JUST as our wheels touched the other side. So so so lucky not to have to explain that one to Europcar! |

I have family in Lismore, bit out of town though.
That joint is flood central. 240,000,000,000 litres went into the dams in the last 48 hours :/ (that should be 240billion, dunno if I got the maths right) last edited by mission at 13:38:17 21/May/09 |

Combined dam levels over past 24 hours increased by +9.61% to 72.30%: Wivenhoe 55.67%, Somerset 106.37% and North Pine Dam 102.25%. Strong inflows are continuing into all three dams. |

Global Warming is certainly having an effect on us.oh yeah except for the f***en rainy season starting in autumn instead of summer? Or the seasons changing on a f***ing dime? - it was summer one day then it was winter the next. It feels like we only have 2 seasons now. |

Property's on the brissie river tho the house itself is quite high up but will be interesting to see how far up our property teh floodings went. |

My mate lives on newmarket rd and his GTIR pulsar is under water.... wank. I helped your mate push his car up the street a bit out of the water. He has quite the unerring sense of humour. |

y mate lives on newmarket rd and his GTIR pulsar is under water.... wank. You have to be really careful with rice around water, it swells up to like 3 times its size |

Meanwhile our dams have hit 27%. Can we have some of that rain, please? The rate we're going you guys are going to be bottling it and we're going to be paying $5/L for water.

That electrical box in the taxi pic doesn't look good.that eletrical box, I think went kabalmo, I got heads up energex was killing power at like 2.30pm didn't happen till 3.00pm after a the lights dimmed (like a brown out) than a loud sizzling sound could be heard. on thursday about 5 energex trucks where on site fixing it. it was pretty epic when the water was rushing into the ground floor from the breakfast creek. |
