With EA's Skate series running away with Tony Hawk's previous skateboarding videogame crown, all eyes were going to be on the Birdman's next instalment, but I think it's safe to say no one really thought they'd go in this direction.

Not to be outdone by Skate's 'flickit' control system that attempted to offer a more organic skateboarding experience, and capitalising on the concept of the virtual band in the lounge with the Guitar Hero franchise, Neversoft and Activision have crafted a skateboard peripheral control device for the newly announced Tony Hawk RIDE.

I suppose because not all of us can zoom up a quarter pipe, jump 2 meters into the air spraying neon streamers out of our hands, flip the board 3 times and land perfectly while a huge crowd of women cheer us on.
