looking at spending 400-450 or so on a lcd.
What should I be looking at?
I hardly play games any more but still delve into the odd game of cs and shiz.
Also im wanting a 23-24" as im doing music production and i want to be able to cram as much into the screen as possible.

Cheers.

I personally lean towards Samsung due to their warranty, but honestly have never had any trouble with Benq either. You can pick up a 24" from either company from around 300-350 pretty easily.

if you want screen realestate for music production, get dual head. ProTools has never been so awesome as when i run it on dual widescreens, can seperate the mix and tracks to different screens, plugins/routing to a 3rd etc if you get crazy.

Mine died after 2 1/2 years, took 2 working days for a replacement to arrive, (collected broken one a week late though....), really cant ask for much better service than that.

I tend to agree with Squarky about the dual monitor.

I have dual monitors at work (nothing to do with Pro-Tools or sound production) and it rocks, so much better than one screen.

I guess it depends if you can successfully run the one program over two screens of if you use two programs simultaneously (one on each screen).

I use two of those at work... they're crisp, and one of my favourites so far, not to mention a pleasure to look at!

As for gaming I haven't done a lot on them since it's my work pc, but DoW2 looked brilliant. :)

I have a Phillips 24" (not sure exact model) and it had 2 grey pixels. They eventually massaged/burnt out though, so it's 100% now. I just mention it if it sways you either way. I also have a Dell 24" and that's really good - I like all the peripherals on it, like USB hub and so on.

I'll third the BenQ 24"....have that and a BenQ 19" at work and it is sweet....again work though so no idea how it goes gaming. Not too up to date with 0 dead pixel warranties but make sure wherever you buy it will give you at least a 7 day 0 dead/lit pixel warranty...pretty sure MSY does this?

I have dual 24" widescreen LCDs at home and it pretty much kicks arse. :D

I basically got the second one to use as a digital HD TV with extra versatility and it's been great for that (the DVR functionality of Windows Media Center is pretty impressive, the 'Record Series' option has rekindled my love of television).

The last 3 LCDs I've purchased have been a Dell, a Samsung and a Benq and I haven't had any trouble with any of them, so I can't really recommend a particular brand beyond those three.

Just get something with the best quality panel and best specs for the price. Or, if you're like me, you won't be able to resist that monitor that is just one better than you can afford and end up going like 50% over your budget... :)

i have 2 x 24" widescreens for work. a dell & an lg... both running 1920x1200 native. it totally rocks for the type of cad i use... only minor complaint is that the dell's contrast ratio sucks compared to the lg.. making them look a bit different.

i had to get used to swivelling in my chair tho coz having a 24"widescreen as your 2nd monitor was seriously giving me neck pain till i started to swivel to face it.

I have an Acer and a Dell at work and I reckon the Acer (which is older) is better overall. But still nothing wrong with the Dell.

Unfortunately, I also can't comment on how the Benq goes for gaming. unless you're refering to spider solitaire, which looks pretty amazing!! Movies look great on it though and it uses 16:9 resolution rather than 16:10 which many other 24" screens seem to use... And if memory serves me correctly, it came with a 10 day dead pixel warranty from Umart.
