The current laser printer is s***, keeps crapping itself. So can anyone recommend me one that is good quality, long lasting and with a not too expensive toner?

I wouldn't mind paying a little extra to get something that doesn't break down like this one. It's the second time and I haven't even messed around with it. It just suddenly doesn't want to uptake paper any more and just sits there. It's a samsung ML2010. It's cheap, and thats what you get.

black and white, then def a xerox docuprint 203a or similar.

first toner last like a year, lots and lots and lots of printing
new toner is $50~, but when it lasts for so long i don't mind.

i hate those ink jets that u do 200 pages and its empty, i would have went through 3/4 reams of paper in the first toner alone maybe more.

HN had it on special 2years ago for $49, then generally e-tail for $129, but when they are on special u get them for about $50/60

Colour: Samsung CLP-310 or CLP-350
Monochrome: Samsung ML-1640

Most of the SMB crowd I know are moving to the Samsungs over HP, Brother and just about any other brand you care to name, because they're cheap, reliable, do a great job and are really simple to set up (and you don't have HP's f***ing ridiculous 500mb driver install package).

I'm not touching anything samsung, let alone the ML line of samsung printers. Yeah forgot to mention I only want black and white.

3x0dus what do you think of this one:

im sure someone will have a better idea with the more expensive stuff.
as far as feature wise it looks pretty good

128mb ram standard. Good PPM and Resolution
Good connectivity with built in Ethernet.

Given past experience with the Xerox whenever i upgrade to a Color one i will be going with them, if there budget line is so good one would expect there higher end lines to be even better.

and xerox basically made the printing industry ^_^.

also im 99% sure the Brother HL-2140 is a re badged Xerox 203a

I've got a spare Samsung mono laser (ML-1740) if anyones interested.

The toner is just about out and it's about 4 years old and includes long parallel cable. Works fine otherwise.

Throw me an offer! (zero can start)

Only getting rid of it as we got a Samsung multi-function.

How do laser printers go at printing photographs? Are they any better at it/more efficient than a photo quality bubble/ink jet?

I'm thinking about a HP Multifunction with fax. I got a Lexmark 342n Multi and is shat itself got a replacement couriered out and it shat from the get go. So back to HP I go.

Brutha's seem a bit exy but they got cashback going on atm.

Heaps faster but the quality is way less (then if using a good inkjet with good paper)

The Docuprint203a is a rebadged Brother HL2040.

The Brothers are all excellent printers (2040/2050 & 4040/4050).

edit: Looks like theres a 2140/2142 now (the 2142 is an officeworks exclusive lol).

Separate drum/toner extremely robust and reliable.

I think umart sell them (or they used to). Its the only laser I'd buy - f*** samsung.

Umart have it (2140) for $105. $73 for a 2600page toner. There is also a 2170 with wireless around $200.

I can't really compare to other printers, but I have a Brother HL-2040. It's a year old, and is still on its first toner cartridge, and I have used it for printing out lecture notes and journal articles. So, lots of stuff. It has some good options for printing: tone saver mode (turns blacks into greys), low quality, medium quality, high quality (which I have never used even for official documents). With tone saver switched off and medium qual (600dpi) it looks pretty damn good. It also has the option to do manual double sided printing so you print one side, then it tells you how to put the paper back in the right way to get the other sides printed properly. The unit itself is a good size too, certainly no excessive bulkiness.

I'd probably be out getting a brother right now but other people in the house want a multifunction printer. So what about a Brother MFC 7340?

7340 = $270ish plus $50 cashback.

Sounds like a good deal to me (umart).

I've been wondering about Officeworks recently, apparently they beat prices by 5%. Maybe you try and get them to beat umart.

$277 - 5% = $263.15 - $50 = 213.15

Thats super cheap.

Ok, thanks mongie. I think I'm going to go with that. I just noticed umart have 2 different prices for it.

sLaps_Forehead: how is the printer? What about scanning/photocopying.

Its black + white only btw.

Its not the best quality Ive ever seen print wise and it isnt all that fast but it is fairly compact and good value for money.

Why do so many people sackride samsung lasers? I've never found them to be particularly good... and they have relatively expensive consumables.

I've had a Samsung for nearly 5 years and it's been fine. The toner is normally $99 but that is for 2,000 pages. I got around 3,500 pages when I had Toner Save enabled.

Hey, I'm not saying that they're the best or anything they just seem to be a decent price and work. And that's all that matters to me!

We now have a Samsung multi-function mono laser and it's been good too. $199 (after $100 cash back) is a pretty hard price to beat.

if your looking at the brother hl2140, try the 5240 or 5250dn. 5240 is $200 and it takes either a 3500 page cartridge for $119 or a 7000 cartridge for $163. much better value toners then the 2140 ones.
