If not, just delete this thread

New system being implemented on mininova..

http://blog.mininova.org/articles/2009/05/06/torrent-removal-trial/

Today, we decided to extend our platform and run a trial with content recognition. This basically means that likely infringing video files referred to by torrents are checked by a third party content recognition system. If the system finds that the file corresponds to unauthorized content, we remove and block the torrent that refers to this file on Mininova.

So pretty much all their files will be deleted?

I would assume everything will be deleted..Highly doubt anything is legit.

Only if the content is recognised by the automated process. Surely a rar file with a password would f*** it up?

Depends how good the filter is, but it definetly sounds like mininova is falling down.

There's more nuking in this thread than a bastard game of C&C 3!
Hopefully the Ion cannon countdowns are nearly finished, otherwise...

Piracy needs boats, I see no boats in that handy guide.

I don't see a problem with this, so long as the system produces no false-positives and data can be verified as infringing. What I want to know is by what process they're determining that - all they've said is that it's 'third party'. What's the bet it just looks at filenames.

This sounds like lip service to stop the lawsuit - there's a million ways they can do this and still seed copyright-infringing torrents long enough for people to get them downloaded. All they have to do is make the time_uploaded and time_its_checked_for_infringing_content and time_its_removed_for_actually_being_infringing far enough apart. Then it'll stop long-term piracy but do nothing for 0 day stuff - which will be enough for them to keep running profitably

Youtube uses a service that compares the soundtrack of videos with a library of samples given by record companies etc...
Even if there is only a short clip of that audio in your video's soundtrack. A lot of parody videos and mashups have been pwned. I imagine they go by the filename to even put the video through this process, as it would not be a quick process.

They don't go by the filename - it might be a factor, but they actually have audio fingerprinting technology that scans the audio. EFF has more information about how they do this. It's pretty interesting tech.

I'd go back to watching 8mm silent films before watching any of the s*** that is on free to air lately. What the hell is with all the sport? CH10 has an entire channel dedicated to it and ch9 loves the s***, ch7 is the only one showing non sport programs and they all suck. I'm going to invent a time machine, go forward in time and record all the major sporting events for the next 100 years and upload them to the internet that way no one will watch it when it comes on and the stations will go broke. f*** you and your sport loving ways.

Sorry to bring this up again but you have probably noticed that mininova's anti piracy thing is in full swing. Looks like what people are doing now is just creating a torrent on mininova that downloads another .torrent, which then downloads the actual materials.

Yeah, I noticed a couple of days ago the new Terminator movie was like that. But now that I know it's wrong to download stuff from there I clicked outta the site.
