I hate to admit it, but I'm no longer a multiplayer :( I just don't have any ability to sit down and game - even for 20 mins - without needing to press pause anymore.

So what's goood out there for single player Wii / PC? Spore was ok (if short lived) but felt like a waste somehow. Mass Effect was f***ing awesome. I loved Metroid and Mario.

I bought Dawn of War II and was bitterly disappointed with the boring, repetitive single player game. SO before I lay down more monies, I come to you, QGL, the oracle of internets.

What's a good single player game right now?

Are you talking about latest games or just great games that everyone should enjoy?

If former, then you should definitely give F.E.A.R2 a go, Prince of persia (Storyline was s***house but gameplay is good). Red alert 3 is great if youre into strategy. Although its pretty slow at the moment and not many good games have been released yet.

rFactor.
Sim City 4

Yeah, believe it or not, not all good games are new.

I have SC4 Deluxe - loved it to death :)

I have Prince of Persia on the Wii and quite ike it (not finished yet tho). Do you mean that or something else?

I'm not that good at FPS games (was never a gun, and MS is stealing whatever twitch talent I had). Are FEAR and rFactor FPS? I could Google, but you know, QGL ...

I still enjoy a bash around in the original Quake and Raptor: Call of the shadows. Newer games I'm liking are Red alert 3 and Need for speed: Undercover.

get some Mario Cart on the Wii happening Hogster. might be designed for multi player but there's heaps of single player fun to be had.
i'm a single player by choice. i have a 360 and i'm not keen on Live or Gold to play with some 15-16 year olds, i'm just not that good (or interested) but i still enjoy most games even though they are primarily designed for multi player on line play. doesn't mean you should not get them. EG i have Left for Dead, Rainbow 6 & COD [both World at War and Modern Warfare] among others in this genre but never played them online.
if you're not keen on FPS due to your MS how about some role playing or 3rd person or driving? [Burnout series are good]
let us know what works best for you then you might get more suggestions. but at the end of the day don't forget most games allow you to play all on your own anyway

Not sure about the Wii version but i was talking about the pc version, with the cell shading and s***. Fear is an FPS/Horror.

oblivion & fallout3 are fps/rpg & you need have no skill to survive :] majority of combat in oblivion is just running back n forth mashing the fire button... as long as the reticle is somewhere near the enemy you'll hit them :P lotsa different missions to choose from... in both games you can more or less do your own thing at your own pace. in fallout3 you have the vats aiming which even eliminates the need to aim in combat & also provides slow-motion gibs.

Hahah TowerD. I won't be sucked into that s*** again!

I have Mario Kart and love the s*** out of it. Its one of the most played games at our house! Gettinginto DBZ lately too, although its a bit hard haha.

For ideas I'm a rabid fan of 'thinking' games like Sim City, Civ, HOMM, etc. DOWII was great as on harder difficulty, as you had to scout and think through the battles a bit, but there wasn't enough variety in SP to make it a stayer.

Diablo-style hack n slash are great, there was a 3D Greek-style one I got right into a while back, forget the name.

I'll look into the softer-core FPS / RPG hybrids you guys mentioned. Like I mentioned I could handle Mass Effect style games, but twitchier ones will roll me and make me smash mice or controllers. The Senate disapproves of that sort of activity :D

Thanks for the tips!

Since noone has mentioned, last game I played start to end was Bioshock. Well worth a go. Fallout 3 was alright, but tedious in the end - I didn't finish it.

You really thought the DOW2 single player game was all that? I got bored bashing my way through generic maps to the boss over and over?

What about Resident Evil on Wii?
It's a bit slower paced shooting wise than yer average FPS and I thought the game was pretty well done.

I know it's on 360 so it may not be what you're looking for Hog but I thought Halo Wars was ok. I am not much into RTS and I did read it's pretty light on in the strategy dept. but I found it engaging enough.

Other single player games I found good were mostly FPS, but try out Portal if you like thinking.

As a long shot you could also try The Sims 2 or wait a bit and try The Sims 3.

They are actually kind of fun if it appeals to you.

4x space strategy games are great too, the turn based ones. Epic gaming goodness there, if you want to play a slower pace game that is.

single player is massively bad 99% of the time 100% of the time.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was the last awesome SP game I played.

I'm in the same boat. I don't have the time to get good at online multi player. Have been looking for good SP games on PC and xbox 360. Recently, SP games I have played:

Portal(PC) - Awesome SP game. Loved every minute of it.

GTA 4 (360) - Was good, worth playing. Way too easy. Boring cut scenes.

Oblivion (360) - Had potential but was too easy. The PC version have mods that make it more like morrowind. Maybe try it on PC.

Assassins Creed (PC) - controls sucked, stopped playing after 10 minutes.

Company of heroes (PC) - I didn't get into it, though it looked good.

COD 4 (PC) - good shooter. Short and entertaining.

HL2 (PC) - good.

Bioshock (PC) - Started out awesome. But once you realise how the respawn mechanic works, the game is so ridiculously easy, it takes a lot of fun out of it.

Halo 3 (360) - its Halo, not much to say, its OK.

Oh yeah forgot to mention portal. Awesome game if you havent played it before, and its mostly a thinker game but you may have troubles because some of the later stages you have gotta be pretty quick to do some of the puzzles.
