This is my local.

The story

A FORMER Lower Plenty Hotel bouncer has been sentenced to three months rehabilitation and community work for king hitting a patron from behind and fracturing his skull.

Tevita Biu, a 29-year-old from Dallas, last Wednesday pleaded guilty to hitting 23-year-old Cameron Lloyd of Yarrambat, just before closing time on April 11 last year.

The Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court heard Mr Lloyd had a beer in one hand and the other in his pocket when he copped the swinging right hook.

Mr Lloyd, whose head hit the ground, suffered a fractured skull, bleeding on the brain, loss of hearing in one ear, memory loss, diminished motor skills and could not drive for six weeks.

Defence lawyer Eleanore Fritze said the attack was “not entirely unprovoked” because Mr Lloyd had called Biu a “c***” in response to a request for him and his friends to finish up their drinks and leave.

It also features in the latest Judo champ classic.

It must be tough being a bouncer ... having to put up with peoples s*** here and there ... but seriously you're paid to just stop people going in as well as providing security, not bloody injuring people...

Yeah it'd be a tough gig, granted - but is it just me, or are there a disproportionate number of hooligans who decide to become bouncers? I've seen a guy get smashed for not much. And this one sounds like a pretty clear-cut case. Yay, the dude called the bouncer a 'c---' - how often does that happen? Bouncer shouldn't be a bouncer if he can't handle a few insults.

Some bouncers are f***ing legends; we got on really well with a stack of them at the RE. "King hitting" anyone from behind though sounds like the work of a criminal regardless of whether or not he's a bouncer.

i agree, king hitting anyone should be dealt with as though it were a crime
being a bouncer, cop, whatever should have no bearing

especially from behind, thats just cheap and weak

yeh ya get good bouncers n bad ones. i regularly chat with the bouncers at stepinn... they look fkn rough but are pretty cool dudes.

a few months back i stepped out of the stepinn for some fresh air n escape the sound for a while & the main bouncer dude had these 3 massive bleeding scratches across his face. i asked what happened n he told me that the floor manager had told him to remove a group of patrons for being abusive to bar staff. he went n told tehm to leave n the chick in the group stepped up n tryed to gouge his eyes out with her claws, making 3 huge scratchs on his face. the bouncer was like " well i can't hit a woman so i just decked her boyfriend & she followed him down " ... had to larf :D

there'd be so many situations that'd be a tough call on how to handle it best.

In other news the trial of the RE bouncers began yesterday.

I wouldn't have a problem flattening some slut if she assaulted me
I would never otherwise hit a woman, but if shes already attacked me shes not exactly a woman is she, shes more of an animal

Agreed. The NuForce guys in the valley are champs - I've befriended most of the guys who have done a stint at Family and they're all very very nice guys. Never seen any of them use excessive force.

Nuforce have a bad reputation in the hotel industry. The bouncers at the family are also dicks. I have never had any issues with them myself so I haven't adopted this attitude in spite. I have seen them do plenty of questionable things in the past. Maybe i am thinking of bouncers who no longer work there though...not sure.

i don't reckon that the bouncer not wanting to punch a woman was some kind of social nicety... more like he just knows that women break easier & mostly bouncers generally try to avoid the manslaughter charges. mostly. ;p
