Woman sees her house being robbed on webcam

Police say Jeanne Thomas logged on to the $US250 Wilife system and saw a person standing in her house. She quickly called 911. While talking to the operator, Thomas saw several other people. She pleaded with the dispatcher to send police, and 18 officers arrived and surrounded the house several minutes later.

nice. i'd definiely like to have a setup like that... also one so i can check the front door without leaving my room :P this isn't coz i am lazy (although i am) it's more coz friends come over to my place & leave again coz they think i'm not home coz i'm in my room with headphones on & music cranking :/

FYI, you dont need IP camera's, any webcam, windows media encoder and IIS, all which come with vista (except the webcam) will do the job. Make a little page that just embeds a windows media player url (code is easy to find on google) and thats it.

You could even make a fancy page that has links to multiple camera's.

I've got a 4 input card that takes normal composite signal input that i want to get goig though.

yeh that'd be cool too. also a device to punch the person in the face if it's a roving foxtel salesman! heh i had this foxtel salesman turn up to my front door the other day n his opening line was 'hey buddy! do you love your footy!?' ... i didn't know how to respond... hence the need for the punch in the face device.

Have had one of these setup for about 6 weeks now. Even if they steal the camera, I've already had a clip of them walking into view which is emailed to a gmail account. Cut the power, UPS is still your friend :)

Want to eventually upgrade it to a paintball sentry gun an mount one so it faces the fence an powerline for possums. Keep the f***ers out of / off the roof!

I'm also going to add a motion sensor light to the area as well for night time.

I had an IP camera setup one day when I got robbed, didn't think to put the computer on a UPS and they turned the power off before walking in ;(
