i might be keen, only played the japanese demo and am keen to try the coop bit.. Demo is only small anyway.

The big problem I had was keeping both characters alive. Playing co-op with my housemate didn't help, he's absolutely rubbish at this.

Yeah, I got through the first episode, the public assembly one, but in the second episode the chick keeps getting insta-killed by the dude with the chainsaw when he comes out and I fail.

Having said that though, generally, I thought the AI for your companion was really good. She rarely ever got in my way, she picked up items that I didn't see or wasn't near, she'd swap between handgun and rifle when it made sense to use one or the other, use healing stuff at non-stupid times to heal both of us, etc. Some of the small touches I really liked too, like at one point I was using the machine gun, and she picked up ammo for the machine gun, and she ran over and gave the machine gun ammo to me.
