If you have a "HELLER" brand fan (mine is model: HPF50) I suggest you get it checked out by a qualified electrician as mine just started sparking and filling the house with the lovely smell of burned plastic.

This fan is maybe a year or so old never used outdoors or in harsh conditions.

glad it didn't cause you any greater problems than a little concern and some obvious annoyance.

You might know of the original sin
And you might know how to play with fire
But did you know of the murder committed
In the name of love - yeah
You thought what a pity

Lay where you're laying
Don't make a sound
I know they're watching
They're watching

All the commotion
The kiddie like play
Has people talking
Talking

You
Your fan is on fire

Pretty sure 'Bonus 10% fire free!' cannot be found on the box, and that Australian Standard doesn't allow for spontaneously combustible electrical goods.

Personally I would trust a self centered jackass over a drunk.

pretty sure that by law anyone retailing it is obliged to put a notice either in the store or paper or something
BigW frequently have notices in the local paper

Why would you pay an electrician $80 or so to look at a $25 fan?
