In keeping with the 'Conspiracy' themes at qgl this week:

Pardon the pun, but just incase you've been living on another planet the U.S.A has a new Prez.

Anyway while I was watching the Inaugaration last nite and waiting for the rifle 'crack', I was wondering if they've shown Obama the Secret Vault with the Flying Saucers and the Dead Aliens, yet?

I might do a UFO Conspiracy thread tomoz.
Theres been some interesting developments with that hacker guy that got caught.

Hillary was seen mouthing the words of accepting the Presidency and said every word with Obama except when it came the the Presidents name.
She said 'Hillary Clinton.'
Obamas going to have his hands full in 5-6 weeks when the March Meltdown occurs.

Your 'ho' GWB has already been at it for the last 8 years. Give him credit, least that was one thing he did well - stuffing up the USA.

But seriously you would have to be one stuffed up mindless idiot to think Bush was a good President and that Obama is going to be worse. Bush was the worst of the worst. Oh wait! Infi is that idiot.

BTW you're just upset there is no nursing home contracts up for grabs under the table with no public scrutiny from the Obama Administration. Boy the times when you need a Santo Santoro.

SFB surely your not so naive to think this disaster was created solely by the US and by Dubya. Sure, he was no genius by any means but it wasn't solely his administration's folly.

The bubble originated from Bill Clinton's edict that all americans should be able to own a home and his administration's subsequent encouragement of residential lending institutions like Fannie May.

In essence over Bush's term, the financial markets ran with this edict then in turn made the system more sophisticated by collateralizing the debt. But the bottom line is that the system was corrupted far earlier than Bush. (Not to mention that the whole paper money credit system is faulty anyways.)

This bubble and the resulting financial collapse was inevitable and by saying that all of middle and lower class America should be able to buy a home on finance inadvertently doomed those very same classes to financial ruin in the resulting chaos.

The principle of colleteralising debt had been accepted worldwide and that is evidenced by the collapse of hundreds of banks worldwide. The US Govt did not make them accept those risks, the greedy bankers did it off their own bat in both the EU and Britain.

Next time, do a bit of basic reading before crawling out of your socialist cave.

And yes I am honest when I say I find Obama listless and uninspiring. He doesn't speak with a feeling of sincerity. He speaks in volumes of platitudes and cliches thus sounding like he is continually in election mode.

I guess when you have listened intently to so many politicians, after a while the slick slogans start to wear off. But for the average punter in the street who doesn't give a s*** about politics it sounds pretty suave I would imagine.

I'd agree to some extend that he sounds bit rehearsed, though I think he's sound more natural than say, Krudd's prepared speeches. It sounded like a it's being read by a robot. I supposed it's to be expected as these are prepared speeches so it's sounded very rehearsed (as one would imagine he'd do them) but you gotta admit he sure can deliver them. At least better than the previous prez, but really that's not saying much.

Bush = Idiot
Obama = People Person and Not an Idiot
Obama = Yet To Be Proven but Good Standing so Far
Bush = "Fool me once, .. **confused oh-s***-whats-rest-of-the-saying look** ..."
Bush = Idiot

Basically, he has yet to do anything, but I'd sure as hell vote for him over anyone else right now. At least he can remember what he's going to say...

Obama's speech gave me hope. Biden had warned that their supporters would be disapponted early on in the presidency when they have to make decisions that many supporters will feel are wrong, so I was pleased when Obama said the following at his inauguration:

To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the west--know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those that cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist

With biden's promise to shock supporters and Obama making statements like that, maybe just maybe things aren't going to be as bad as some of us expect.

surely.... right? it takes a certain kind of animal to exist in politics. it generally eats most people up ruining their families and health, and after they have been chewed up and spat out all you have is the 9% super.

your whole life has been disrupted. your previous career or personal business interests in mothballs or ruined. and people wonder why the talent pool for politicians is so shallow. only staffers and unionists are the ones prepared to take the personal and financial risk to run for office.

Maybe if the Republicans had have nominated Bill Gates as their presidential candidate, the Republicans might have stood a chance :)

I hope that one's somewhat tongue-in-cheek, trog.

You only need to walk around the street for five minutes (or read some of Scorp's posts) to realise that serving some people is a waste of time.

Churchill said the biggest argument against democracy is to have a 5min conversation with the average voter.

But, at least you get paid as a politician - he'd be on a pretty penny. It can be a lot worse, you could be involved somewhere in the political system that is tough as well as more or less thankless (e.g., local council member).

The voting community gets tired of new and shiny things eventually.. the usa will get tired of obama.. i haven't had a look at the daily show or colbert yet to see what they think of it all, i wonder if they'll do as O'reilly said and turn on the ones they praised..

Cos the US have an embargo against Cuba, that prevents american companies and even foreign subsidaries of companies that trade in America from conducting business with Cuba/Cubans.

It's why I have always assumed cuban cigar's to be a "luxury" in US movies cos they were hard to get in the US.
