I'm very happy with my GTX 260. They run quite and cool compaired to the ATI cards. I was impressed at how well it handled Crysis.

Hijack:
Ok so I need a new graphics card for my media centre, Mainly so I can play blu-ray discs cus my 128 meg 6600GT doesn't cut it :( Doesn't need anything flash dash, but I am guessing the most amount of ram would be beneficial, specially since I only have 2 gig of regular ram in it. A HDMI slot would be cool too, as I could plug straight into the HDMI on the TV. MSY have: 1GB 4650 Gigabyte $111. According to Gigabyte website it has a HDMI port. It will be playing heaps of 720p eps etc too, but it can already handle that. I don't really see a problem in the 4650, anyone want to prove me wrong? Its got a celeron 2.6ghz in it, so it won't handle games any time soon - maybe one day ill put a new CPU in it as well to play games on a uber huge screen....but I can always just plug my XPS laptop into the screen if I am that keen. Oh also, is there anything else I need to look out for? PCI-Express, I am pretty sure it's only 1.1 (or the earlier versions) will that matter if I get a 2.0 compliant PCI-Express card? Or should I get the : 1GB 9500GT ASUS for $119 ermm I should maybe look into a Silent card eh? last edited by Fireblood at 17:30:18 17/Dec/08 |

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/ I don't get those benchmarks, half of them show nVidia cards all over the top and half of them show the ati 48xx's on top. If the results are so divided why does everyone keep pimping the 48xx's in every thread on here? Is just it just price, and is the difference really that large? |

it's the bang for the buck, but if you're willing to spend extra for a few frames then go for it.

Cos the 4800 series for the price kick the gtx2 series.
The gtx280 is nice .. hope you got a case big enough and powersupply with enough power. I replaced my 8800gtx with a 4870 noticed a difference ... worthwhile ? I dunno maybe ? |

I can run Crysis warhead with a mix of max and high settings no aa/af at 1440x900 at good frames on a 4850, that in my opinion is an excellent buy at $200 (that's what i payed a few months ago, probably gone down)

It went up to $300-$400 with the massive drop in the value of the aussie dollar.
Back down to $219 now. |
