Nano War

Anyone got any other flash game gems? Yes, I know we've had such threads before - but maybe there are some new favourites?

Ahh Vector....

As soon as i can (without losing any lives or whatever they are) i get the red missle one, the big red one. Then i set it to target Close and keep adding more of them when i can and upgrading them 2-3 levels too. Surround them with range and attack boosters and cover the entire map in basic blue slow-down lasers.

That way the enemy takes ages to get anywhere and in the meantime is being shot to all f*** by red blocks (normally sitting in middle of map but reaching most of it)

I do something similar to Mantis. I try to find a spot in the map where the VT have to pass by at least twice and clump as much crap into it as possible. I do my best to position bonuses in a way that they stack on everything then I go to town upgrading my towers.

Just like Mantis I use s*** loads of blue towers to keep everything moving slow.

At this stage I have cleared out the beginer maps and I think one of the next ones.

I finally finished the second map... tons of blue level 1 towers and level 2 purple towers, with bonus power ups increasing the purples to 150%, then upgrading them as the cash roles in. I didn't bother upgrading the blue ones. The secret with the purple ones is they are powerful but need a rest between firing, so having lots of them is better than a few that you've upgraded.

The blue ones have a small range, so put them on the edge while the purple ones can sit behind em (you'll be upgrading their power and range later on anyway).

f*** yeh they are! I usually get a couple of interest bonuses (1-2 depending on the map) and the rest extra damage ones, sometimes (again depending on the map) with a range on. I can do most of the Normal difficulty levels without losing a life that way.

I do similar to Mantis as well. The trick is lots of blue towers - not just to slow everything down but also to spread everything out as much as possible (so your towers are working on as few targets as once).

If you can get an early level 3 red tower it'll probably suffice for several levels with no need for any other upgrades, so you can save a bit of money.

Also I think I figured out that upgrading a level 3 tower is more efficient than building a new level 3 tower - but only up to a point, cuz eventually you need multiple things shooting. By the end of the whole level I might have 8 or so fully upgraded l3 red towers.

HOWEVER, the red towers are almost f***ing useless against the little green bastards, so you need to either have a s***load of them or have a few other towers in there to help out. An upgraded level 3 green is OK but I think you mightttt be better with an l3 purple (although I don't usually bother, my reds usually sort it out).

you can't do 50% of the maps w/o using the +25% damage booster
you stick 4 of those in a square and build level 2 or 3 red towers around them + some blue-2 and heaps of blue-1 towers over the other sides of the towers to slow them all way down

scuzzy, for that map I had on the middle block (from left to right):

2 vertical rows of L2 purple (set to Close firing)
2 vertical rows of power ups
2 vertical rows of L2 purple (set to Close firing)
1 row of L1 blue

Then I had the wall surrounding the middle block covered with L1 blues.

I only upgraded the purples once the middle block was completed (except the blue row, which I added later).

I only lost 3 lives with the first round with those fast yellow ones.

To get started, I used one L1 red and one L1 green, then sold them later.

heh yes :) they don't upgrade all the towers on the screen, you place them like a normal tower and they have a radius effect (ie, any tower within 3-4 squares will get the damage boost)

scuzzy's arrangement of damage boosters is pretty good (ie, put them in the middle) - if you put l3 red (ie, rocket) towers around them they will lay down the serious smack. If you replaced one of the damage boosters with a range booster, the rockets will reach almost the whole way to the top and bottom of the screen as well, so they can attack almost everything, anywhere.

Heh, I was actually thinking about posting a thread asking for help on how to complete the extreme maps.. I didn't realise I was like, the greatest player of this game anywhere. Dammit!

Level 25

Level 30

The last screenshot was a 'hard' one (with the greys) and it totally smashed them before they'd even gotten up the left hand side ... note I've still got 2 bonuses in storage as well (probably would put them in the middle island as damage boosters at some point in the next couple of levels.

you could do that, but I find its better to keep as much in the bank as possible (so you keep earning interest) and just upgrade when yuo need to. That level is pretty easy really cuz (with lots of blue towers) you can slow their approach for ages and whale on them.

The hardest things to destroy come around level 43 (can't remember if there's another batch later) and they're the green ones - red sucks against them. However usually you can brute force it with heaps of rocket turrets.. I usually throw in a few high-end green lasers as well and upgrade them a bit but I suspect a decent purple would be more useful there. Almost every game of it I've played recently though I have NEVER built a purple.

maxe, that's the s*** - try spraying some more blue towers around though, even if you don't have any "real" towers near by - they'll help slow up the movements of the creeps so your other towers have more time to concentrate on ones that are actually in range.

I have made it to level 18 of "The Splits" (one of the expert levels) and can't get any further. Making some progress and I have an all new strategy I'm going to try out over the weekend to see if I can make some headway. It's f***ing hard though; the fast ones are what kills you because you don't have enough firepower or slow towers to take them out, so I can usually only last 2 waves of them. Even if I had a rocket tower I'd be screwed, and I can't afford enough blue towers to slow them down enough.

okay i dont get hoe the interest works... you need to build up money right? like if you have 20% interest and only $100 as your round ends, you only get +20$ so $120 right?

How do you guys get sooo much money? Do you just try and use the minimum amount of towers you can to kill stuff early and let the money pile up so your interest works for you? Or something else? Is it 'fun mode' or cheeting or something?
Taipan

Yeah I saw maxe's stash and realized I was doing something wrong with the money myself. I tried to be as tight with the cash as possible in a game lastnight and ended up having 70k in the bank. once you get over 10k pretty much everytime you hit the send VT button it gives you a good whack of cash and makes upgrading pretty easy.

build as minimaly as you can and upgrade towers only when needed, eg the expensive red rocket towers don't need upgrading if the HP of the enemy is lower than the damage of the weapon.

Pretty much this yeah

Get all interest upgrades for your first 3 or 4 bonus points, then concentrate on having as much cash in the bank as you can

Pro-tip; if you know for sure you have to build something, hit "Send Vectoids" first, so the interest is calculated on the money you had before you bought the tower, not after (you can build towers mid battle fyi)

Makes a big difference in the earlier levels

the key i found it to get interest upgrades to 18%, and buy biggest weapons early. i get the red3 as soon as possible. then accumulate $$. use blue1's liberally to make the most of the high damage units because they are so cheap.

then create 2 columns of red3's and purple3's each with a damage powerup.

profit.

Nano war was good! 15 levels isn't enough. I played some of the submitted ones and they were fun. My strategy was to stack nanos onto a big one to keep the smaller nodes generating more. Once I had outnumbered a node I would take it. Neutral nodes, wait until the enemy wears it down, you will have less to waste nanos on to take that node. otherwise.. ZERG RUSH! :D

The secret to level 15 is to move and takeover as much as possible as quickly as possible and whatever is closest to the cells you don't own you must use before you use the others and yo msut constantly move everything which is a bit of a pain because teh computer can do it all at once if you had like 2 mouses that would be a bonus. Their are 4 keys to the 15th level in nanowar.

1 - Rapid expansion
2 - The middle cell
3 - The quadruples at the bottom of the big cell
4 - Optimal space utilisation (The theory behind this is to use the cells that are closest to the cell you want to takeover and collect a certain amount of cells at a distribution cell or a cell that is relatively close to all cells.)

As for vectorTD I used level 3 rocket towers 2 mostly upgraded and just the blue ones for taking out stuff, it got really close towards the end, positioning really gives you greater control. The upgrades are to expensive and the overall damage capacity of the level 3 rocket towers becomes less effective.

I can't get past 34 on The Frog. I get killed by blues, even though I have about 25 lvl1 blues and a few lvl2 ones. You fellas reckon the frog is hard, try the other 2 extreme maps, No Left Turns is just stupid actually. This is the best I can do on the extreme maps:

The Frog: 34
The Splits: 20
No Left Turns:6

I might be able to get a bit higher on the splits, only played it a few times.

Yeh I've pretty much given up on the Extreme maps. From what I can tell its not like there's a bunch of fun you can have trying to solve it in various ways - there's probably only a handful (if that) of alternative sequences of tower deploys you can follow to complete the maps. I don't really have the patience to trial-and-error it any more. I'd be interested in seeing a complete solution if/when someone finds it but I'm out (for now!) until I find another TowerD game :)

trog, have you checked out Defense Grid: The Awakening? I've been thinking about buying it.

Looks just like a 3d version of your average TD game, $30 is a bit steep for that imo.

Latest effort on the Frog - level 34. I think I'm throwing in the towel at this point.

i just wish i could double click on my towers to select all... or alt click to select a few... because at times i need like 3 towers to target 'soft' targets... with low hp and i need the rest smashing the hards... eg i need more control over the ai... quickly....

also its f***ing stupid how you need to progress to the next round to get your interest bonus, eg if you sell a bunch of towers... then click to next round... to get your interest... which is so hard to get much of in frogger... you will start the toids coming :(
