Topic: Mortal Kombat vs DC: Is ours uncensored?

I remember seeing an article about how the european version of MK vs DC had uncensored fatalities and all the blood still in it, but I haven't heard anything since it came out about whether this turned out to be true or not (and more importantly, if it is true, did we get the european uncensored one here?)

Anyone know either way? Thinking of getting it, cos it looks like good oldschool MK and its been getting some pretty decent reviews, but I don't really want the teen-rated family fun version.

I thought the censorship was around some of the fatalities and not much else?

Eg. The joker's one was "adjusted" so the second gunshot takes place off screen. You see the first bit with the fake gun, he dances around & it zooms onto the Joker as he pulls the real gun out and shoots. Pretty tame stuff..

Actually, I think there's a video doing the rounds of all the Fatalities/Heroic Brutalities - ahh, there it is:

Edit: Almost forgot - No, I don't know sorry Khel. was wondering the same thing myself

Spinal cord extractions, arms being ripped off, being chopped up by knives, heads cut off...those were the good old days.

IMO the MK series should go for 1 more game then finish the series. Get every single character ever in the entire series and do it old school style with very very high quality sprites and call it MK Armageddon or something to say "the series is now over". It's just not shocking anymore and everytime they release the game, the fatalities are boring and just doesn't have the same effect that MK1 or MK2 had. Still though to answer your question i got no clue about any effect it will have here but if the UK version is ok then i'd be willing to bet ours will be too.

Nah when new consoles and tech come out they will have to make new versions of the game that take advantage of the latest tech and appeal to contemporary audiences...

They were pretty tame although I did get a good laugh out of the joker's gun one.

It's another argument for R18+ classification IMO. Rather than a half assed attempt at edgy yet kiddy safe(?) maybe we would see companies pushing the boundaries a bit.

However to me this was never going to be "Mortal Kombat" as such, in that it hasn't really been created in the spirit of the original. It really is just selling out.
Mortal Kombat is supposed to be dark and nasty and bloodthirsty, with violence that is so over the top it is damn good fun. Kind of like Bruce Lee meets Bruce Campbell.
The two franchises (DC and Mortal Kombat) seem to be a little incongruent. Would've made more sense to throw together MK with Dark Horse Comics or something. I suppose they are going for brand exposure but essentially have diluted the main strength of MK in doing so, which was the gratuitous violence.
While some of the comics are quite dark to begin with, they have chosen to go with the Kmart version.
What next? Sub Zero pencil cases?

The original Joker gun one (that's present in the European version of the game, but not in the US) was a hoot (and is right at the end of that 8 min video I posted above).. to save you watching them all:

I don't get it, the US one is censored and the Euro one isn't? Why did they do that?
I'm hoping that fatalities video was from the US version cause it had about as much blood as an episode of the carebears...

Just watched the rest of those fatalities....they all suck....There is basically no difference between fatalities and brutalities, and if the fatality is more violent, it's shown offscreen! :|

Hmm... edit still not working?

Edit: just read some more news about it and it was to get it through with the Teen rating in the US (which is 13+), but none of the articles mentioned blood, just a couple of fatalities, is that seriously as bloody as it gets?

I really like the idea of this game, and I love seeing the DC characters in it even though I was never a huge fan of any of them, but a couple of things disappointed me about how much watering down has occurred... Firstly, no decapitation for Sub Zero? What the hell! Secondly the blood of course, it's just so much more vibrant with huge amounts of blood going everywhere... just doesn't really feel like a Mortal Kombat.
