Took a small 6 week contract, thought thatll do till xmas, then ill look for a perm role. Now someone has made me an offer for perm role... grrr!
Only a week into the contract, and ill go ask the boss what my options are. I told him at the int that i was looking for perm. Im 90% sure he'll make me work out the week and thats it, but what are my legal options? |

haha you're a girl aren't you, just don't turn up, and if they call pretend you've never heard of yourself...easy.
If you want to go the whole hog, make sure the first result in google for your name is something saying you're dead! |

In most contracts there is a clause regarding the amount of notice required to resign. This usually revolves around the pay period. For contractors it's probably not as long as permanent staff so check your contract - might be as little as a week.

pfft 6 weeks, just finish it
tell your new employer you can start in january whichever party breaks the contract is liable to pay damages for the other party same as if they canceled your contract, you'd still want your money if you cancel it, they still want the work done or adequate compensation for wasting their time |

if u break a fixed contract he will be able to sue you for damages, for the balance of the value of the contract, unless there is a provision in the contract to the contrary.

What infi said. And IMO it'll be viewed as highly unprofessional for you to walk break the contract under such circumstances.
Unless both parties can come to some sort of written agreement. |

Refer infi's post. You've made an agreement that you have to honour. Your best option is to appeal to his better nature.

Id like to move to the perm role asap cause i want to get a homeloan before the $21k grant expires. banks like to see you off your probation period. You've made an agreement that you have to honour Yep, agreed. And thats what i told the perm guys too. They actually liked that answer and thats why they gave me the job. last edited by mooby at 13:42:55 24/Nov/08 |

If the permie role is serious about the offer then I can't imagine they'll care about a 6 week delay, after all I imagine they'll have some sort of Xmas shutdown on the way anyways.

a mate cut short his last two contracts, one he negotiated the 4 weeks notice down to three weeks, and the more recent one he cut short a contract by 7 months giving just two weeks notice.
You don't need a permie role to get a home loan. It just depends how your s***'s setup. |
