URGENT ADVISORY - Gateway Bridge tolls waived for afternoon peak

The Inner City Bypass (ICB) in north Brisbane will remain closed this afternoon due to extensive flooding in the RNA tunnel from last night's downpour.

As a major north-south connector route, this closure is expected to cause severe disruption to peak hour traffic flow.

To help relieve this congestion, the Queensland Government is working with Queensland Motorways to waive the tolls at the Gateway Bridge this afternoon (20 November) from 3pm to the end of peak hour.

Queensland Motorways will monitor traffic flow and determine when tolls will be reinstated.

Without people having to slow down to pay tolls, the number of vehicles travelling on the motorway each hour can be increased to help take the strain off the rest of the network.

The cash booth's boom gates will be lifted and the E toll readers in the E toll lanes will be turned off (so the tags won't beep or deduct tolls) during the toll waiver period, so vehicles will be able to drive toll-free through any toll lane at the toll plaza.

Main Roads is encouraging motorists to use the Gateway Bridge to cross the river as an alternative to help ease congestion on Gympie and Wynnum Roads and both the Story and Captain Cook Bridges.

To ease congestion in and around the city, Queensland Motorways Limited has agreed to waive the tolls at the Gateway Bridge today from 3pm to the end of peak hour. Motorists are encouraged to use the Gateway Bridge to cross the river as an alternative to help ease congestion on Gympie and Wynnum Roads and both the Story and Captain Cook Bridges.

hopefully people will choose to go there instead of the Captain Cook and I can breeze right across to milton...
