Hi folks,
Just wondering if anyone is working on any free or commercial iPhone apps here on QGL? Its taking me a while to develop mine as its a big change from UI programming with the likes of Win32/.NET Forms but I'm getting there and I'm in the latter half of development and hope to get mine finished in the next month to submit it to Apple. I'm developing a personal gig management app. Its like an overhauled band's calendar. You can add up to three groups/bands, add your songs (with lyrics), add venues with standard info such as address/phone numbers but also extra venue specific info such as stage size, environment, sound acoustics etc then once thats all set up you can add your gigs, which will link to your added venues. Gigs can also have set lists created from your songs you've added. I'll definitely be using this myself and hope to sell it for 4-5 bucks on the App Store once finished as it should be quite useful for a lot of gigging musicians (in theory). Here's some of the latest screenies. The Songs and Groups tabs are fully complete. Just working on getting the Venues and Gigs happening now. http://idisk.mac.com/nick.bedford-Public/shot1.jpg http://idisk.mac.com/nick.bedford-Public/shot2.jpg http://idisk.mac.com/nick.bedford-Public/shot3.jpg http://idisk.mac.com/nick.bedford-Public/shot4.jpg http://idisk.mac.com/nick.bedford-Public/shot5.jpg http://idisk.mac.com/nick.bedford-Public/shot6.jpg http://idisk.mac.com/nick.bedford-Public/shot7.jpg Just curious if anyone else is developing any App Store apps? I've been dreading the complex editing table UIs for Venues and Gigs as its not the easist way of setting up forms (too much backend coding imo compared to Forms). |

Drop "Gigs" out of the icon, the name's already written below it. Other than that it looks good.

3dee that's awesome. Good initiative - no one has done anything like this afaik. Is there anyway you can somehow integrate it with myspac band profiles? Even just links to bands who are playing at the same venue might be useful. I think if you added a few very nifty integrative features it would be extremely popular worldwide. Something like this app has so much potential to be THE band networking application. |

how easy is it to put in the info?? i take it there isn't any desktop type porting over of stuff?? Can you throw text files or soemthing at it and it pulls the info from it?? You could pitch it at music labels or something as a tailored management tool for their various acts... Eg office pushs band info to the band members.. sync it with google maps and you've got the way to get to the gig from your current location.. Add ontop of that some sort of marketplace backend to sell tickets through it

Cheers billy. I don't know how I would integrate with MySpace. I'd need to know how their databases work :S
As for the info entering, the Venue editing will allow you to import from existing company contacts so you could theoretically just google maps it, add the GMaps contact to your contacts, run Gigs, hit new > from contact. SDK allows for integrating with the address book which is handy. The only current download functionality is in the lyrics. When editing lyrics you can download them from a text file if you've uploaded it. Thats just about the only functionality I know of so far without requiring any expensive servers to provide a upload/download information service (which I'm not prepared to do as I'm not exactly well off...). The venues will have auto dial/map lookup tapping like in the Address Book. So you click and itll call, and click an address and maps will open though I've yet to find out how to do that. Essentially the first release will contain all of the required functionality, then I'll slowly add extra features and usability enhancements after that. The original point of the app is to provide much more venue/gig specific calendar management, not to provide ticket sale functionality and myspace database integration which is a big stretch for me. I don't have a server farm, or access to ticketek database servers! The data is stored in a SQLite database file by the way. last edited by 3dee at 14:45:52 16/Nov/08 |

I don't know the innards of localisation so I'll be targeting it for english at first and if I find its not that difficult, I'll work on localisation which would allow me to sell more :D but given I have no other languages at my disposal it probably won't be very easy if I decide to.
By the way, any other people developing apps? |
